Are there any Michiganders out there in TFF land (or any one else well versed in Michigan law)? If so.. Do any of you know where I can get the scoop on Open Carry? Ive tried searching the web.. but I feel uncomfortable "referencing" Non-Michigan.Gov or similar information.. Basically Id like to read it from a Michigan approved legal document to know I have all information straight.
I wouldn't mind having a CCW/CPL for purchasing/vehicular transportation.. but I some how believe that Open carry would be my better choice, besides... putting a Springfield XDM (.40 S&W with a 4.5" barrel) would be uncomfortable in my waist band! If anyone can direct me in the right direction... Web site or tell me where I can find the legal code of laws relating to the subject, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Shawn Dow

Try this. Or these two. The last one is for concealed carry but there may be a link. http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/michigan.pdf http://www.michigan.gov/msp/0,1607,7...0953--,00.html |

You can call directly to your local police department and discuss it with them. Back when we had a discussion on open carry in Washington state, I called out there and spoke with 2 different Sargents on the subject. Read up on the law and then get a feel for how your local law deals with it. If its legal, its legal. Enjoy!

I have OC'd many times in the greater Detroit area but I prefer to CC & I have a full size 1911 IWB. Here is a good start for your journey........

I'm glad that I stopped in here. I thought that Michigan was a concealed carry state.

Michigan is a "shall issue" state... there is all kinds if info on CCW/CPL.. not to much on non-CCW/CPL open carry.. from what i'm finding out, is that .. since there are no laws stating you cant open carry.... you can open carry... Im just trying to find all the info before I get "carried away".. by the police!

Try miopencarry.org.
Legal but be careful. Some quirks in the system. |

If i remember correctly you cannot open carry in a vehicle. The fire arm must be securely stored out of reach while driving unless you possess a CCW permit. Michigan gun laws kinda suck, but are better than some.
