long range ??

Hello guys and gals I have a 17 center fire , a 204 ruger a 22-250, a 243, a 270 all great guns all set up with leupold 2.5x10 lps scopes all set up for or should i say sited in at 100 yrds , I just reciently got my hands on a 22long rifle with no scope with that said I also got my hands on a new in box leupold vx7 3.5x14x56 34mill tube i never shot at 400 to 600 yards my club has a range of this caliber. all my guns are hunting set ups but i want to fool around with some of this long range stuff for fun since i`m not getting out hunting latley which gun should i take the scope off and put on my 22 so i can mount the new long range scope on it , guess im asking which gun of mine shoots the flattest best suited for 400 yards or so on paper target shooting only

I think your 270 with 150 grain bullets will shoot flatter a 500 yards if zeroed at 300 than any of the rest of them.

Know I`m glad i asked I would of guessed the 22-250 with a 14 twist not sure of the twist on my 270 have to look it up thanks for your input , say how far is a 22-250 good for any idea on targets

Most high powered rifles shoot ok to 300 yrds. It is when you start getting beyond 400 yrds that it doesn't really matter. That is if your shooting paper. If you hunting then you need to look at remaining energy, to make a good kill. But putting hunting aside for now. I also think the 270 is your best bet with what you have. You need weight and speed. The 270 will give you that. Once you get past that 300 yrd point blank range it becomes a math problem for any rifle, cal set up.

If i read your question right, your wondering about which caliber is better for
longer ranges and not worried about the "knock-down" power factor?

yes it would be paper for know , thank you guess it will be the 270 i50 gr, yes thats my question zane what you think would it matter the 22-250 or the 270

No matter how "heavy" a pill you load for your 22/250 and I am guessing the heaviest available would be in the 70gr range, it will suffer FAR more wind drift at long distance than the .270 - so that being said, the .270 would be my choice. My personal 22/250 is SIGHTED IN dead on at 300, but I am using it to hid 'ground hogs' or 'wood chucks' or whatever you happen to call em in your area. If I were shooting anything larger, the .270 would be my choice. I have a friend who grew up in north-western PA and HIS personal ground hog gun WAS a .270 and he found it to be just the ticket. He actually sold a 22/250 because he didnt "like" it at range compared to his .270 so GOOD LUCK and HAPPY SHOOTING.

the .270 Win. Ive shot Alot and the .22-250 I havent shot much past 200yrds. as
I dont own a .22-250 cal rifle.
With the .270 Win. Ive always had a mil-dot scope on and as stated above,
alot of things to take into consideration on "either" caliber at longer ranges.
The .270 Win. with the 150gr I can stand by for sure. With what shooting Ive
done with the .22-250 and with what Ive seen my buddy do (Ruger Rilfe)
I'd have to say that the .22-250 was the flatter shooting of the two.

Captain Jack, here is what my Remington .270 was doing @ 500yds
on a "not so good" day witht he conditions and wasnt useing a
bench. The cross wind was fluxi'n.
In the pic, I mis-typed, it's the 150 gr, Rem CL.
(whish I could give you more on the .22-250)
And in the pics, it was right after the 1st 100yd. sight-in.

thanks Zane what power scope was on that gun , reason i ask i never looked 500 yds thru my scope i have a 2.5 x10 on there now will the 10 power get me there ??

The scope that was on the Rifle is a Redfield 5 Star 4-16x 40 AO.
I had it set on 12x at the time and we really wasnt set "good".
No decent bench for that long of a distance and the weather was trying
to play havic on us as well.
Between the wind gust and the threat of rain, trying to squeeze off a good
group wasnt going as "planned". But the scope on 12x was doing it's job
as far as seeing what I needed to see.
Not sure what brand scope you have, but I've had 3 different ones and shoot
out "to" 500 yards and have used the 10x.
Everyone's eyes are different and mine arent all that good these days.

i here the eye thing , my scopes are all leupold lps except the new one which is a leupold vx7 3.5x14 , was asking before i put new scope on was going to shoot both the 22-250 and the 270 with the scopes that are on there and switch once i figure out which one i settle in with , for less work seems i`ll be ok with the 10x to start , thanks been shooting them golf balls latley?? when our snow goes away i`m gonna try it .lol wish me luck went to gun show today bought new glock 17 9mil been shooting a 1911 45 cal gets pricy thats were the ruger 22 comes in less $$ for fun lol

I think I would have to go with which every one was the most accurate. If all are equally accurate, I'd lean toward the 243. There are hi BC bullets in .243 caliber, you use less powder (read cheaper to shoot) and you'd have less recoil to boot.
I regularly shoot 600 yard with a 3.5x10 scope with very good success. Any of your leupolds should work well.
Thats just my take on it. Good luck capt. on what ever you choose.

Either the 22-250 pr the 243 depending on what twist the 243 is.

I have shot ground hogs out to 450 yards with my 223 with devastating effects.
