General Motors Co. will halt production of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid car from March 19 until April 23 “to keep proper inventory levels,” according to Chris Lee, a GM spokesman.

Sorry, but I couldn't care less about any of the GM workers (at any level), in a freemarket economy, if a company can't make it without taxpayer help, they should go through bankruptcy. Anytime the government gets involved, they pick who they want to win and as a result someone else loses. Let the freemarket economy work.
If the company I work for was going broke, the government wouldn't bail us out and no one at GM would care. As a matter of fact, most people in the country wouldn't even hear about it, since we are not one of the government pet company. Myself and the wife would do whatever it takes to find work, and even if we didn't we have done the responsible thing and saved money. Last edited by rcairflr; 03-05-2012 at 05:17 PM.. |

Thank you, I figured I'd get hammered for my feelings on this and I'm sure someone still will come along and say how evil I am for thinking this way.
It is not the governments job to pick what company they want to win by giving them handouts or tax breaks. Those handouts are coming out of our pockets in order for them to buy votes and some other company and employees will suffer because of it. |

obummer said he wantes a volt after he is out of office. I hope he gets it soon.
I wonder what he will use it for, maybe a golf cart. It's not good for anything else. Too small to haul watermelons or Moochelle. |

Watch for some new massive tax credit for buying a Volt and saving the world.

The feds were told by Chevy that 10,000 volts had been pre ordered. They sold just over 7K. Orders seem to disappear after some small mechanical problems, like catching fire.
I don't think bHo's mini commercial for them, is gonna do squat.

Even if they actually worked, and did what they're "supposed" to do... $40,000? Seriously? You can buy a beater and a lotta gas for that kinda coin.

I'm all for buying American, but the American market MUST abide by the same unwritten laws of free enterprise as any others. The Volt IS a FARCE, hell, a person can do better with the gas mileage from a Hyundai Accent for less than $14,000. So the Volt's outragous $40,000 (start) price makes it a stupid idea. At $4 a gallon, a hyundai can go 250,000 miles on the savings! Who the hell really drives that much anyway? Very few people do, so NO ONE who buys a Volt will ever see the savings! They are literally throwing their money away. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And of course, Americans aren't THAT stupid, as the poor sales figures prove.

I read an article before the Volt actually came out. It was written by someone at GM who indicated that they (GM) had put all their eggs in one basket with the investment in development and engineering for the Volt. He also said that if the Volt isn't a success GM is finished.
It's hard to believe that all the decision makers at GM were that delusional. The Volt is nothing more than an overpriced toy. It gets worse overall economy than a hybrid that sells for half the price and sub-compacts at a third the cost. It's not even a true electric car but actually a less efficient hybrid whose gas engine drives a generator rather than the wheels and it can go less than 30 miles before the gas engine cuts in. It's hard to believe GM spent a decade and millions of dollars in R&D and the Volt is the best they could come up with. Farewell GM! |

has anyone ever thought about how much coal production would need to be increased to power the plants that make the electricity to recharge these cars?
youre not conserving anything. youre just transfering the problem to another arena. youd think being america with the worlds largest supply of natural gas would come up with something along those lines! i mean, it works with fork lifts! |

GM has got some pretty stoopid engineers. GM has got some pretty stoopid people funding them. The US has WAY too many stoopid voters.
There's no such thing as a prepetual motion machine. I learned a long time ago that every time you attempt to create energy, it comes at an expense of lost energy. Burn coal to create electricity? -1 Put electricity into a battery? -2 Oil/gas to engine? 0 All the energy is used in the combustion process. Same with propane/natural gas. It's really simple stuff. I ain't the pointest end of the shovel, and even I know that. ![]() It's why bbq tastes so good. ![]()

Comrads, don't worry. Everything is fine as our great leader says. Now get back in line or visit one of our fine encampments where you will be taught respect for your government.
coming to a community near yours, soon.
