Default .22 ballistic coefficient

Got some .22 CCI AR Tactical the other day and like it. My old Jaeger is kind of picky about what ammo it cycles, and seems to like CCI mini-mag, and the CCI AR Tactical. Both shoot about the same precision. I was intrigued by a thread discussing long distance (>100yards) .22 shooting, and thought I'd try to work out the balistics for longer distances.

Does anyone know where I can get the BC for the CCI mini-mag solid point and for the AR Tactical? Both are copper jacketed round nosed 40 gr projectiles.

I can't see it on the CCI website.

Thanks.

I highlighted your request in red. The CCI AR ammo should have pretty darn close to the same figures for calculating long range shots. I think it runs close to the same velocity too.

Wow!! It's like hitting the jackpot on one of those one-armed bandits!! The info just keeps coming. Thanks, JLA.

The AR Tactical has a quoted speed on the box of 1200 fps. I tried it out at the range today. At 25 yards I got this (bench rest) out of my Jaeger, which is not really a tack driver, but is fun to shoot.

Just got this info from the CCI people in reply to their web-based contact form:

Each bullet for the Mini-Mag 40 grain and AR-Tactical have a .124 BC.

Austin @ CCI/Speer

The AR round has a slightly different shape to the mini-mag. Not sure how they can both have the same BC. Any hints? Have they changed the shape of the mini-mag head?

The Mini Mag is on the left, the AR Tactical is on the right.

Dunno. Usually a different Ogive profile means a different BC. Test them at 200 yds using the BC known for the CCI minimag and see if they share a common POI. If the BCs and velocities match then they should have the same POI.

Im thinkin the changed the nose profile a bit to facilitate better feeding in the AR.

Thanks. Will do. It'll have to be 100 yards--that's all our club range will do. The club goes out to the military range on certain days where we can get longer range shooting--up to 600 yards, but only with center fire rifles. We're under militay rules there.

100 should be enough. The results will be less profound, but you should be able to tell if theyre gonna hit the same POI.

Finally got to the range to do some testing at 100 yards. 10 rounds of each type of CCI minimag. The POI's are different, but so are the velocities. These are shot from a Jaeger AR-15 look-alike which is fun to shoot, but not a tack driver. Maybe I'll get one of those some day.

Solid point, CCI Minimag: 1255 fps

CCI AR Tactical: 1200 fps

CCI Minimag HP is a little more scattered:

Just for what it's worth.

I'm copying it and putting it into my shooting folder. Great info. And Thanks. I suppose the difference in POI is due to the difference in muzzle velocities--55 fps?

Looks like a good program. I have the CED chronograph and like it; I have trouble getting it to see the bullet sometimes--wrong light angle or something; otherwise a very nice setup.

Thanks, Beth; I'm spoiled with my .223 though. It knocks the center out of the target at 100 yards.
