You can open carry in most places. No permit needed.

In a car it has to be clearly visible from outside the car.

You can open carry in bars or "Places that sell alcohol for consumption on premises".

Make sure that if you are open carrying that it is truly open. Make sure 100% of the pistol and holster are visible.

Since I will be visiting cpttango's home town of Stafford, VA in July, how about Concealed Carry license from Texas? Daughter and her family live there, want to visit for a few days, don't plan to leave my guns at home...

With respect to everyone, this type forum is not the best place to get accurate up to date info on carry law in various states.

Often you can contact a state police post (in many states) and get up to the day info. Many states have advocacy organizations for the legal carry of firearms like MCRGO in MI or Ohioians for Concealed Carry in Ohio or on a national overview basis: http://www.usacarry.com

if anything the people on this forum usually know more about the law than the law does if you know what I mean.If you want to know the correct term is reciprocity agreements. The NRA keeps an up to date map if you ever want to check to see if your permit is good in another state.
