Does anyone know how to, or furnish me with a source, resoldering
old double barrel shotgun barrels? Every gunsmith I've asked in our area says the same thing, "I tried it or did it once and will never try it again! Any help will be most appreciated David H. Pedersen 1219 Baldwin Street Harlan, Iowa 51537

If I were you, I'd give Briley a call. They offer more shotgun services, especially for doubles, than anyone I know.

I can contest to that. Unless you have the exact equipment needed to solder doubles together again, its a real pain in the butt. I've soldered ribs back on and that was enough for me

Simmons used to do that work also. The problem is that the work requires both extreme care and proper equipment. A lot of time goes into making sure the barrels end up pointing in the same direction, not an easy task even with modern laser equipment.
The result is that unless the shotgun is quite valuable, the cost of the work will far exceed the value of the gun. For the average old shotgun, Belgian import, Crescent product, hardware store brand, it is simply not worth the cost of resoldering. A Parker or a gun of that value, it would be a different story, but high quality guns usually don't come apart in the first place. Jim |

I just checked Simmons and I don't see that in their list of services. But to give you an idea, they will make a new barrel set for $1900, which is about 100 times what most of those old shotguns are worth.
