The fella tried to check his gun into the security desk at the Empire State Bldg.
They busted him there.

If you're going to carry, then you have the responsibility to know where you
can and can't carry and also know were it's illegal to even own a gun.

the "right thing" would've been for him to not bother trying to check in his weapon, because it's none of the government's business whether he carries a gun or not.

This happened a while back and I have given it a lot of thought. First, he should have known the laws of where he was. Second, he was concealed and if he was properly concealed they would have never noticed or done anything. However, the thing that is being blown out of proportion here is that fact the he is a marine. I respect that fact wholeheartedly, but they are making that the crux of the situation. Whether he is a marine or a garbage man, he was still wrong. NY city has some of the most strict handgun laws around. He should have known the laws of the state he was in if was going to carry.

Also you have to go thru a metal detector to get in there, so unless he was carrying a plastic gun he would have set off the metal detector.

The laws in New York city are allot more strict then in NY state.
They have (NY city)laws that are only for the city set up for the city and are not in force outside of the city.

And be ignorant of the laws so you can have a vacation paid for by the state in a state prison for up to 20 years

Or you could be smart and be legal. Know the laws and not go to jail.

The Law says, and I quote:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I don't see how this is such a difficult concept to understand.

How does the city get away with breaking the States Constitution?

The mayor of Seattle tried some similar nonsense and was shot down in flames by the courts.
