Default Decision Denying Right to Carry Outside the Home

NRA Will Appeal Decision Denying Right to Carry Outside the Home

Fairfax, Va. – Late today, a federal district court in Illinois wrongly ruled that the Second Amendment does not protect a right to carry firearms for self-protection outside the home. The NRA funded this challenge to Illinois’ ban on citizens’ ability to carry firearms legally outside their homes and businesses for self-defense, and will also be supporting an immediate appeal to the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals—and to the Supreme Court if necessary.

The decision in the case of Shepard v. Madigan misreads the Supreme Court’s Second Amendment decisions and will continue to deprive law-abiding Illinoisans of the right to protect themselves effectively against crime on the streets. It also conflicts with a growing body of case law elsewhere in the country, where courts have increasingly recognized that the right to bear arms for self-defense doesn’t end at Americans’ front doors.

“The NRA’s legal efforts will not end until the right to carry firearms for self-defense is fully recognized throughout our land,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action.

And yet, two federal judges decided for the 2A. Both in Mass, IIRC. I see a crisis in law coming. Again.

I wonder who's constitution he was reading? Probably the one he wrote!

If bozo gets another term and appoints more left wing lunatics to the supreme court, we wont be carrying anywhere.

Not only will you not be carring, but you probably won't even be able to own a firearm!

Remember the Black Panther "Poll Watchers" that intimidated voters in 2008, and were never prosecuted? They will be out in force, anywhere the Machine can't vote the graveyards.

What a surprise. This is 100% chicago. To many war zones down there to arm the public. People go to jail there for any form of self defense.

I was hoping that the NRA was working jointly with the SAF but they both filed in different districts. The NRA filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois while the SAF suit was filed in the Centeral District of Illinois.

This could be good news too I guess, but the NRA has a track record.

100% correct! That's one of his "main" goals for a "start" of things to come.

Looking at his voting record while in the Illinois State Legislature, we won't have anything except a good lock to defend ourselves or our families, not even the pirchforks he often refers to.

Here's something to think about...Illinois is #13 in homocides...5.5 homocides per 100,000 pop.....that's with the strictest laws imaginable...
Florida now in daily headlines is #15 in homocides with 5.2 per 100,000k....
Which means there are about 35 states with lower homocide rates than Illinois...

By the way Loisianna is worst at 11.2 per 100,000
And Vt. Is #49 with 1.1 per 100k with right to carry concealed with no permit
FBI figures.

Number one on the agenda is a new "assault weapons ban" to include all semi-auto rifles. I wonder how much the Mexicans are paying our fearless leaders for that one? Or is that a question we aren't allowed to ask?
