Default part time occupier /Mc D's worker rips off coworkers with winning lottery ticket

A McDonald's worker who claims to have a winning ticket for the world's biggest lottery prize said she will not share her millions with the colleagues with whom she was in a syndicate.
Mirlande Wilson, a 37-year-old Haitian immigrant, said she purchased the ticket, now worth more than $US100 million, with her own money separately from those bought for the 14-strong syndicate at the fast food restaurant in Milford Mill, Maryland. Her irate co-workers, who earn around $US7 an hour, say that they each contributed $5 before sending her out to buy tickets for the group a few hours before Friday's Mega Millions draw, and are demanding she splits the prize.
The boyfriend of a manager at the McDonald's said he told Miss Wilson: "These people are going to kill you. It's not worth your life."

CCTV footage shows that the winning ticket was bought from a nearby grocery store at 7.15pm - around the time the McDonald's workers agree Miss Wilson went to the shop. In a phone call to the restaurant shortly after the numbers were announced at 11pm, Miss Wilson is said to have shouted: "I won, I won."
Americans spent nearly $US1.5 billion in the run up to the draw - the equivalent of $US5 for every man, woman and child in the country - and officials say the $US640 million jackpot was shared by three tickets, bought in Maryland, Illinois and Kansas.
Miss Wilson, a mother-of-seven, told the New York Post: "The winning ticket was a separate ticket."
The director of the Maryland Lottery said that the prize had yet to be claimed.

that's a sticky point because she needed to copy the tickets and distribute the photocopies to all the participants. just to keep things separate.

the lawsuits will be coming and I believe there is legal precedent.

she couldn't just split the money, now the lawyers will get a significant portion.

Greedy is as greedy does. Wonder if her Occupy friends will also demand their "cut"?

If what she is saying is true, then I don't feel she has any obligation to share with her co-workers.

I bought 3 tickets out of my own money on Thursday and then on FRiday contributed $10 to an office pool of tickets. If one on my $3 picks would have won, I would be under no obligation to share with the other people in my office.

I am assuming that all the office tickets were held by one of the people and copies were made for everyone else. If that was not done then it may be tough for her to prove it was her ticket.

I have no idea what the truth is and neither does anyone else on this forum. There wasn't enough information in the article to make a good conclusion.

The article states that each contributed $5. As such, there should not be any ticket with only 1 pick that belongs to the "syndicate". But again, the article doesn't state whether the winning ticket had multiple picks or just a single pick.

The article also doesn't go into any detail on how the "syndicate" controlled the tickets. Like I said above, when we do this at work, one person keeps all the tickets and everyone else gets a copy.

If all the "syndicate" tickets are accounted for and none of them were the winning ticket, than she is not lying and deserves the winnings, not her coworkers.

On the other hand, if what she is saying is a lie and it is one of the "syndicate" tickets the truth will come out and she will be exposed as a low life. Hopefully then, her share will pay all the lawyer fees.

For me, I will not make any judgement against her until the truth comes out. I won't jump to conclusions and call her greedy or any other negative name, until the truth comes out.

fair enough , when i come across these items i cross reference them and find other stories about it so read a lot more than just whats posted but posting 5-10 links each time i was told is a pain so i just post the most mainstream media usually and maybe a counter point if available

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but "Nobody" is always on the money.

The truth in this story should be easy to prove. If this lady is lying, the truth will come out and hopefully she will be the one to pay and her coworkers will get their share.

So far she hasn't been able to produce ticket. When a friend came over she said she didn't know where it was? Also, on first day, Fox news was at the store and the manager said the ticket was purchased as a single ticket at 7:15PM by a MALE customer. I think this women is just trying to get her "15 minutes" until the real winner comes forward.

I am an employer and if they did all of this syndication on company time, when the employer is paying for the fruits of their labor, should the employer get a share. The short answer is no. It is ok to do personal business on company time. If you do not believe me ask everybody that filled out their basketball brackets at work.

sorry to hijack the thread, but, do you interview your potential employees or do you hand that off?
I wonder because if I get a evil HR job I want to ask some questions to evaluate the IQ of the person on the fly. see how well they do in a crunch.

I'd ask something like 'would you rather get a $3,000 refund from the IRS or would you rather owe them $98?

First time I ever quoted myself here but I stand by what I said. Did you see her press conference today with her lawyer. there she was on national TV with a "Sweet Swine Pork Rinds" hat on and now says she hid the ticket in the McDonalds where she works. Geeesh. How much did she get paid to wear that hat???

This whole story is getting stranger all the time.

One headline says she has the ticket hidden and the next says she has lost the ticket and isn't looking for it.

Very strange situation all around. I haven't determined if she's a crook or just a nut.

This happened before, Detroit I think, a few years ago, where this woman claimed she lost her winning ticket along a street, and all these people were combing the garbage in the freezing dark...turned out she was just trying to get some free money from the sympathy ploy, had never purchased a ticket. This "person" is the same way, whole thing is a scam for attention. She'll end up screaming that it's racist that they just don't give her $1 million, and we'll see Sharpton and Jackson marching again, when they can tear themselves away from Florida. One things' for sure, she should probably NOT go back to "work" again.

With the exception of a few high level security jobs, a tentative employer is highly restricted on questions they can ask an applicant.

Ask just one seemingly innocent question ( are you married ), and off to court you go. They'll win, and your probably out of a job.

I won't go thru the process of linking to something(s). If you have doubts, you can do the footwork.

THE SAGA ENDS:

BALTIMORE (AP) (4/10/12) — Two public school teachers and a school administrator who call themselves "The Three Amigos" are sharing the spoils of last month's record Mega Millions jackpot, planning trips to Europe, new homes and children's college educations, Maryland Lottery officials said Tuesday.

The Maryland winners claimed their proceeds Monday and chose to remain anonymous, but the lottery agency shared some details in a news conference, including the fact that each of the three friends works multiple jobs to make ends meet.

"If it can't be you, these people are precisely the people you would want to see win," Maryland Lottery director Stephen Martino said.

The winning Maryland ticket is one of three nationally that split the $656 million jackpot, the biggest in Mega Millions history. The other winners in the March 30 drawing were picked in Kansas and Illinois. Kansas' winner claimed a share of the jackpot Friday, but also decided to remain anonymous. Nobody has come forward in Illinois, where winners have one year to claim a jackpot.

One Maryland winner is a special education teacher, one is an elementary school teacher and the third is a school administrator. All three said they plan to continue to work, noting that they were committed to their students, Martino said.

"One said 'I can't give up on my kids," he said.

The winners had watched the news coverage over the last week — including stories about a Baltimore woman who claimed initially to have the ticket, then said she had lost it — and joked with each other, knowing that they had the winning ticket, Martino said. He said the woman who was in the news last week is not a winner. Calls by the Associated Press on Tuesday to the woman, Mirlande Wilson, and her lawyer were not immediately returned.
