Default wild three weeks......

I apologize for my absence my wife and I have been paying some very heavy stress dues.
I was still on the road 3 weeks and 2 days ago when my wife calls me and tells me I need to get my butt home NOW she has high blood pressure (just discovered) and possibly bursitis. I start ragging on my dispatcher to get home which doesn't happen until the 4th I was supposed to be home on the 30th.

I get home in time to take my wife to the doctor Wednesday the 4th and that's when the whole crap storm started. she doesn't have high blood pressure she has ridiculously high blood pressure 192/128. she has a stroke on the exam table, i guess if your going to have a stroke then do it in the docs office.

I took her straight to the ER and she gets a CT scan and transported by helo to Shands in Gainesville ( a great hospital!! with top notch staff!)

after being evaluated a dozen times, 2 CT scans a MRI, 3 ultra sounds, and 3 X-rays they discover a hemorrhagic stroke, a small one, that has taken the use (temporarily) of her right hand. one doc already said she'll get it back.

through all this they have found a growth on her left breast and a much larger one in her throat, she pretty much lost her voice a year+ ago, and they had to take a biopsy (which hurt like hell) they got her BP under control and kept her in the hospital to find out the results. it's breast cancer there is a 4mm lump in her left breast and the cancer in her throat is also breast cancer that has spread.

actually that was the best news we could hope for, the treatment options are wide open for breast cancer. when the oncologists came in and told us that a knot was lifted off my chest, some of the possibilities of cancer were untreatable. they made an appointment for us with the specialist on Friday the 20th, they said since it was hormonal in nature they were working up an antibody treatment for it.

needless to say I've been researching online the monoclonal antibody therapies. we are very hopeful and are keeping a positive outlook.

Prayers being said for you and your wife, stay strong she is going to need you now more than ever. In retrospect her having the stroke may have saved her life.

My prayers to you and the wife. In 1984 they told me I had three months to live because of cancer. It is amazing what they have done with treatment. I'm living proof. Your love for your wife is apparent and that will go a long way. Keep us posted.

Best of luck to you both! A great resource is Lance Armstrong's Live Strong Foundation. I encourage you to visit their website. It is free and full of information from survivors who can help you prepare for the road to recovery!
