Are we supposed to be hoarding again

Went to sportsmans last night to get a few more ammo boxes, and went to go get some small pistol primers. ALL GONE. they had a few packs of large pistol and the only boxes were of match grade large pistol. WTF. The last time I went to get primers there, about 3 weeks ago they had everything. I was only in the need for shot shell primers at the time. I really thought about buying a box of Large rifle, but they had plenty of those. Now I'm second guessing. I don't shoot my rifle all that much but like to reload for it. 1000 primers would last me till I'm 60. Think I'll buy 2 boxes of small pistol when they get them. I'm not a hoarder by nature, but I also don't want to buy by the pack and have to hunt and scrounge for them

My Sportsman's warehouse is perpetually sold out of all pistol primers with the exception of Remington. Bass Pro shops sometimes has CCI but wants $48 per 1000

Thankfully my LGS frequently has them in stock for about $32 per 1k.

Primers are never going to be less expensive than they are now. If you can spend $35 to buy a thousand and not worry about it later, that's worth it to me.

I haven't been reloading long. I've never run into a time when I need a particular component and it isn't available for me. But I've also gone to where I need a particular component. I keep a decent supply (based on my usage level), and I don't worry about running out.

Sportsmans in Alaska is still well stocked with what I'm looking for. Course mostly just hunting ammo supplies nowadays, I bought all the 556 my grandkids will ever need or be able to shoot skyward or at debris in the river back in late 80's, early 90's when it was cheap; $179/case for good stuff back then. No regrets either, even after all these years without no government or social collapse of our Nation; which was predicted back then even as it is being predicted today. I even hauled it all across Canada when I moved North, an even better story. When ya have some extra bucks, invest into fmj for long term insurance.

Couple years back, I started piling up on hunting reloading supplies; spent over 5 thou and got 10% discount off total at Sportsmans. Here in rural Ak, we have to buy at Sportsmans, too many fees to send home. My mistake was buying too many, 215's and not enough other primers which I also need; probably won't shoot over 2K 215s remainder of my life and have more than I'll ever use. Also powder changes from year to year, kinda like new vehicle models. Just some mistakes I made I guess. So when you buy 50 lbs, buy a larger assortment of various flavors. For me, bullets stay the same; I like certain ones and always will. I remember when they went sky high, 10 years back (metal prices) and figure it will soon occur again, so I now have plenty. Buy them when on sale, Ex. Midway has nosler partitions on sale this month; around 10 bucks off a box. 7 mags, $25 rather than $35. 338's, $35 rather than $ 48. Sportsmans wants $51 for 50 count 338. I ordered over a dozen boxes and shipping was only $15.

Just my 2 cents. Buy & stock up, but buy wise; a mistake I won't make again. I have 6K 215's and now it seems I'm the only guy in my community that shoots magnum rifles, ha ha. I guess my grandkids won't ever go hungry when the caribou migrate through for want of reloads.

From before the election in 2008 and for about a year after the election everything gun related was swept off the shelves by people hoarding. Ammo was particularly scarce but it was strange to go to a gun store and see empty gun show cases, no ammo, and no reloading components.

While hoarding is normally bad, in this case it was probably a good idea. It became apparent that Obama might win and his agenda promise to the anti-gun crowd was gun control (and maybe ammo control too). But as Obama wanted two terms he saved the gun control for the second term. Coming out against guns during the first term may have killed his chances for a second term. While we tend to think of some political candidates as just regular people, they are generally not. They are part of a political machine and one of the worst ones in America today is the Chicago one, of which Obama is the leader if not their hero.

Currently Romney is not a slam dunk for president and the 50% or so of the populace that don't pay any taxes may elect Obama again to get more free goodies from the government. This time gun control will definitely be on the table. America is at a turning point (progressive socialism or true freedom). If the progressive movement wins the 2012 election then there will be gun control, health care control, Cap and Trade which will lead to sky high energy costs, and many other things that will lead into a European style society (bankruptcies and all). There may not be enough of us freedom lovers and too many of those on the dole to right the ship of freedom in America.

So, hoarding may be the only way we can assure a few years of firearms use. I don't want to see it but you have to do what you have to do.

Even if the only reason you hoarde is to save money in the future. Ammo and components are never going to get cheaper. Pay now or pay twice as much in 5 years or 3 times as much in ten years.
