Need Kimber 1911 review - The Firearms Forum

Ok. So Our house got robbed and they took just 2 of my pistols (Glock 21 & a 19) they left all my rifles and shotguns and other pistols alone.

So with my insurance check I am thinking of getting a Kimber PRO CPD II. Just woundering what you think of this pistol and is it worth the 1200 I am going to have to spend to get it? Or should I just replace my Glocks with new Glocks?

For the price of one Kimber you can get two Glocks. So do you want only one handgun or two?

Other than costs, I've got nothing bad to say about Kimber. My boss carries one as his EDC and it is a sweet pistol.

I have a Stainless Pro CarryII and have put about 700 rounds of hardball through it using the factory magazine. No hiccups yet. I did field strip it and give it the SBGO treatment before firing. The only thing I don't like is that the slide release is a little stiff using just your thumb.

I would always choose the 1911 but thats just me. Depends on who you ask. I would trade a bucket of glocks for a good 1911.

And there lies the dilemma. I will never spend good money on a glock, therefore I will never have a bucket full to trade.

I'm with DD. I would take a good 1911 over a dozen Glocks and day.

Kimber makes a nice gun - at least from my perspective. Have friends who own Kimbers. I have heard their customer service is a horror story though, which is one of the reasons I chose Springfield rather than Kimber. I would probably even go so far as to suggest considering Smith & Wesson before Kimber.

For $1200 you can get a really nice Springfield too.

I would have no second thoughts about buying a Colt either.

Glocks work. They're simplistic, homogenous and inexpensive. That said, I still prefer a 1911.

If I am not too late to put my 2 cents worth in, here goes. In my opinion, the Kimber is an over priced piece of &*^&. I had one and it shot OK but the Taurus PT1911 could out shoot it any day of the week. I had only had mine for about a week when I noticed that the barrel was getting rusty and I had not even fired it yet.

If you like those plastic guns, go ahead an buy both of them, or you can buy any other 1911 and have change left over for some ammo. I recommend the Taurus or Citadel 1911s.

If you get a kimber make sure it has a true stainless barrel because they do tend to rust.

I've had my PT 1911 since 2008 and it did not need a breakin period or had any FTF or FTE through a total round count of about 18K round, comes with forge steel frame ,slide, stainless barrel,and for half the cost of the kimbers.

I have 8 revolvers, 44s, 480, 460's just haven't had a 1911 since 1970's. So, I was talking to my guy at the gun shop I buy from and told him I'd like to get a Pro Crimson Carry II; can you get me one? He said it would take 6 months but if I wanted a Pro Carry II and ordered my own crimson trace grips; he could have me the gun in a couple weeks. This guy has always treated me right, good prices too. Is he being straight up? So I'm getting my first 1911 after all these years. What Kimber do you all suggest?

I have never owned a Kimber but wouldn't mind owning one. Not for $1200.00though. For that money I'd be looking at S&W, Colt, or Taurus and have some money left over for ammo.

I have a Kimber Classic, 6000 + rounds and so far, so good.
The choice, (IMHO) should be made on what your MOST comfortable with and good at. If you know someone with a 1911, try those, unless you already have experience, in which case, what do I know.
I like my Kimber a lot, and would bet my life on it (and I do).
