You might also like John Wesley Rawles' Patriots http://www.amazon.com/Patriots-Survi...7254117&sr=8-1 His sequel Survivors is also pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=docs-os-doi_0 Matt Bracken's "Enemies" series is prescient about what may come to our own country, and is very entertaining. Here's the first book on that: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=docs-os-doi_0 (kindle) I've read the other two in this series and they're pretty darn good. Another great read on collapse scenarios is The Walk: http://www.amazon.com/The-Walk-Lee-G...mm_pap_title_0 Finally, The Peacekeepers, is a pretty good read too, a little more hokey, but entertaining. http://www.amazon.com/The-Birth-Peac...mm_pap_title_0 There's a whole series for this too, if you really like it. I usually have 5 or 6 books going at one time. ![]()

I also read the Patriots book, and I liked the Holding Their Own ones better. I think you will be very pleased with them.

I read both Holding Their Own books and have recently finished two others:
The Collapse, by Jeff Stanfield http://www.amazon.com/The-Collapse-e...s=the+collapse (But, this guy REALLY needs an editor - big time.) and Half Past Midnight, by Jeff Brackett. http://www.amazon.com/Half-Past-Midn...+past+midnight Both very fast paced and enjoyable. The Collapse was atrocious in the the spelling and grammar department, and can be distracting - but the story line is really good, so, if you can overlook that, it's enjoyable. I'd really like to see more from this author, but, I hope he gets someone to spell check and grammar check for him. Half Past Midnight, is very quick to read, almost too much was edited down, but for the price (2.99 on my kindle) it was worth it. No spelling or grammar problems with this one, just wished it was longer. I look forward to more from this guy.Ok, and now, I just downloaded 77 Days in September.

Finished 77 Days in September
I wrote up a review on Amazon... "Probably the twentieth or so book I've read in the last 18 months in the apocalyptic fiction genre. This work is outstanding and merits at least 4 out of 5 stars. The whole reason for wanting to read this story was that the main character's long walk home intrigued me. It certainly could have been a longer book with more detail - delving into an almost daily blow by blow narrative, but that too treads where books sometimes then become predictable and boring. The author does a great job of keeping you in suspense....specifically: will he make it home? Could I do it? That's the question you'll constantly be asking yourself as you read it, and that's why it's great. It's also a clean read, in terms of no gratuitous (unnecessary or unrealistic) sex or violence. It's also "clean" in the sense that I don't recall many typos or grammatical errors, something that usually plagues these independent works, then only to be salvaged by their story line. In this case, a delight to read, and we, the readers, bring the "third" dimension to the characters, as we can identify with many of them, most explicably with the main character, Kyle. Well done, sir! I look forward to more from you in the future, and good luck with your next endeavor." Now, I'm reading Forecast.

Finished Forecast. Not nearly as enjoyable as some other apocalyptic fiction I've read. It was well written. Focused on a very small group of survivors. The book really delves into the small group's dynamic and how they deal with the aftermath. More psychological in nature, than a thrilling adventure read.
Now onto this book: Hunter–After the Fall. Here's the description: In volume one of his epic post-apocalyptic adventure saga, master storyteller John Phillip Backus brings this not-so-distant vision of the future to life with intriguing characters, gifted narrative, believable settings and mythic heroes and villains. Driven by a riveting storyline brilliantly illustrated by Asheville, NC artist, Chad Schoenauer, the author weaves his linguistic magic until the reader is utterly immersed in this brave new world and dare not fail to turn the next page for fear of missing out. On his own in the Wyoming wilderness, fourteen years after the End War and its aftermath nearly wiped out the human race, self-exiled survivor, Hunter Macintosh, is suddenly faced with more than he bargained for-three sisters and a child crossing the uncharted wilds alone. Suspicious at first, Hunter soon discovers they've traveled more than three hundred miles to find him, at the request of their father, Adam Planchet-Hunter's former commander and comrade-in-arms-whose besieged Colorado community is at risk of being overrun by lawless hordes! Honor-bound by a pledge made many years earlier, Hunter agrees to return with Elise Planchet to help turn the tide before all is lost. Set against the majestic backdrop of the North American Rockies, Hunter - After The Fall is an engrossing tale of adventure, betrayal and hope, where the true character of an individual is thoroughly tested and the outcome uncertain at best. Join Hunter and Elise as they battle bands of outlaws, enraged grizzlies, numbing blizzards, armed militias and their own stubborn hearts in an epic tale of good-versus-evil in a potential future all too easy to conceive! So, we'll see how it turns out as an epic "page-turner." ![]()

Find yourself a copy of "THE ROAD TO SURFDOM" If that doesn't scare the hell out of you, nothing will. It's not a thriller, and it's not intended to be scary. It's about the course of men and their government, but it will surely open your eyes.

I really enjoyed the book Act Of Valor. It was way better than the movie.I also am a fan of David Thompson. He has a series called The Wilderness. It is a story of a mountain man in the Rockies. He marries a Shoshone and they have 2 children and his mentor is an old mountain man named Shakespeare cause he quotes him.I think the series count is around 70 books. If you like this type of history.

Hunter-After the Fall
While an enjoyable read, I didn't expect something so formulaic and predictable. It sort of reminded me of a Louis L'Amour novel, where the archetype hero character is excellent at every task he needs to be, is perfectly balanced, yet one with nature, and still able to integrate with his fellow man. A bit unbelievable. But then, it is escapist fiction. Some of the other aspects in the book were a bit over the top as well, for an apocalyptic novel, in terms of the prescience of the leader who founded a small community, whose knowledge and funds, pre-fall, seemed bottomless. Weakens the story I'm afraid. Probably won't continue with this series. There's plenty of other good reads out there though. Next: Survive the Coming Storm It's non-fiction though. Just acquired the Road to Serfdom too. Includes other documents as well.

for those of you who have read the "Holding Their Own" series...book three has been released. It continues the story of Bishop and Terry on their quest to rebuild their lives from the collapse. I enjoyed it very much!
