Default Got the Taurus Back Not Good

Had to start a new post.

Just recieved the 1911 back. I AM PISSED OFF.
They replaced the slide and said that the accuracy was contributed to a weak groove. They also included a target to verify accuracy 3" group at 25 yards.

Now what pissed me off.
This is was a brand new pistol, no scratches, no mars, or dings. This is what I got back (pictures). I'm not anal or a prima donna, BUT my Dad taught me respect and appreciation for fire arms, (I have the knots still on my head, and I'm 60 years old,) and how to dissasemble a 1911 with out scratching the slide lock on the frame . Nothing pisses me off like seeing this.

The slide is scratched and mared

I will be making a phone call to Taurus tomorrow and I going up the ladder till I get satisfaction.

I am still pissed...

I don't mind honest ware and story marks, but flat out disrespect for a new firearm is unforgivable.

Glenn, that's a bunch of B.S. I'm pissed and it isn't even my gun. That looks worse then some I have seen in pawn shops. That is just not acceptable. I would begin by starting at the top of the ladder, and send them pics. If they don't make it right with you I will not even consider doing business with them in the future.

I'd be calling and writing.... That's BS. I've seen better used guns at gun stores than your new pistol. I wouldn't shoot it till someone there is going to replace it for a new one,(unmarked).

use this thead in any correspondance so they can see the damage

this has been stuck in a vice or something

or tossed in the back of a pickup with shovels and driven on a bad road

it aint service , thats for sure

i marred up a guys stock , had a light fitting fall onto it and deep gouged the stock

i called him told him and assured him there'd be a new stock on it , but it'd take a week extra to get it out from the US , he was miffed but ok , and i dont blame him, , but when i had screwed it through the board into the beam i did not ralise i'd screwed into a knot hole and the whole knot came out one day and .. i had to wear it

how could a dealer NOT do similar ??

Sorry to see that your pistol came back to you in that condition. I would contact the manufacturer and see if they will repair it under warranty(I would try this first). Or you buy a refinishing kit for it and do it yourself, it is pretty easy. These kits can be found online or at sporting goods stores. Just make sure you read the directions carefully, some kits will require you to heat up your firearm with a blow dryer or some other heat source.

Can you say brand new replacement? I would ask for nothing less. I have had good service from Taurus in the past but man that slide looks like it was used in street hockey or something.

Some of mine are scratched up too, but, when you get it from the factory you dont expect it to look like they used it to hammer nails with. The scratches should be left up to the end user.

Glens:
You are entitled to a MAJOR correction from Taurus. I absolutely do not agree with Mark that you should under any circumstances attempt to repair it yourself. You should contact them and write out your complaint clearly, RESPECTFULLY, and tell them what you expect from them. You should have them repair it to your complete satisfaction or replace it. Remember something speak (or write) when you are angry and you will make the best speech you might ever regret. Be cool but professional and persistent.

Poppypaul, Thanks, I have not contacted Taurus for that specific reason.
Monday morning I will start nice and work my way through this.
I will keep yall informed of the status...

There's always a chance of contesting it with your credit card company. At the minimum, you could put that in your letter...assuming you used a credit card.

Demand they pay to have it refinished by a 3rd party. If you let them do it they will put the same weak bluing back on it. I recommend having it cerakoted with a matte graphite finish. Itll look the same but be 100 times more durable.

Default Letter to Mark Kresser President and CEO of Taurus

Well here is the letter I sent to Taurus..

Mark Kresser
President and CEO
Taurus USA

Mark Kresser

On 4/17/2012 I purchased a Taurus 1-191101 sn NFN xxxx brand new. I fired the pistol at 25 yards using Federal 230 grn hard ball. Point of impact was 16-18" low on a 6:00 Bullseye hold . I field stripped the 1911 to verify proper assembly. Fired 7 more rounds and same impact point. Used my other 1911 (an Ithaca government model M 1911 A1) with the same ammo and impact was as expected 3" high.

The gun store that I purchased the Taurus at sent it in for repair 4/24/2012. The 1911 was received by Taurus 4/26/2012. Repair was completed 5/16/2012 Service order # 410454. The slide was replaced. Poor Accuracy Weak groove.

The gun store JKD Professional Gunsmithing received the 1911 5/17/2012. I was there when they opened the Box. I inspected the gun and found that the finish on the slide was marred, several scratches on the top and bottom of the slide, and a scratch on the frame. The barrel link is also damaged.

This repair on a brand new gun is unacceptable.

I Contacted Customer Service, They were very apologetic, and set up FedEx shipping for the return. The FedEx terminal is 30 miles from my house, not real convenient. I will deal with it.

I expect that the 1911 will be repaired to new condition or replaced.

For my troubles I would also like 2 more clips, and a set of the Taurus Bulls head wood grips.

Sincerely
Glen Phillips

I am including picture links so you can see the damage
