The Taurus 1911 was received at Taurus, and I got this in the e-mail from the president of Taurus.
Greetings Mr. Phillips: Thank you for your note, and for bringing this to my attention. I am very sorry for the trouble and want to make sure we get things right. I have asked our Department Manager to handle your return and make things proper. Again, I am sorry you have experienced this level of service and we will work hard to correct things. In hopes this note finds you well. Kindest, Mark

My reply
Mr Kresser Thank you for your attention. One of the reasons that I purchased this 1911 was the comments on Taurus customer service and life time repair warranty. I know this repair was not up to Taurus's standards. In my circle of friends and competitors the Taurus is well respected. Again thank you for your attention Glen Phillips

Glens:
You handled this beautifully! Not only did you get satisfaction but you also provided Taurus with very valuable information that they can and will use to improve their internal operations. In addition to that your use of this forum has given all of us a lesson in how to handle it properly and also given to us a new respect for the response and correction they were able to afford to you. It was a win-win-win situation for everyone. |

I'm a sucker for the wood grips myself.
I'm glad Taurus was able to work everything out for you.

I'd be good and ticked off also! I wish you the best with this, and really think that Jack had a good idea about informing them of this thread so they see the negative feedback that poor customer service generates. I do hope though that they do right by you and ship you a new pistol, with the added mags and grips that you requested. Keep us informed on the outcome please!!!

Taurus did repair the pistol to my satification, as well as including the Walnut grips and 2 extra mags. I am well satisfiied with Taurus's Customer Service. I can only imagine that the first repair attempt was an anomaly. The President of Taurus USA looked into this Personally as well as contacting the Manager of Customer Relations. In the future I will have no reserves recomending Taurus products. Thanks for your consern.

Well I finally got the chanch to shoot the "repaired" Taurus PT 1911 on Tuesday June 12th. Had a buddy with me Sighting in a 30-06 so he was using the target board. I desided to shoot a bucket at about 30yards. First 2 rounds hit the bucket, then it started shooting low again. Picked up the fired shells and they were deformed on the head.
![]() Put up a new target at 25 yards and the 1911 was shooting 12" low again. ****. Had my son shoot the Pistol and he was shooting low too. Put the Taurus back in the box. Went to the gun store that I bought it from to show the Gunsmith and get his oppion and inspect the gun. He found that the mark was made by an raised edge on the battey face of the slide. [IMG]http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u119/glens67 ![]() Justin (the Gunsmith) also noticed that the rear sight was loose. The setscrew was missing, and that the rear sight was too lose in the grove. he also commented on the poor installation of the barrel link. ![]() ![]() The Pistol was shipped FedEx this morning, over night. Now we will see what happens next. On the Plus side Taurus's Customer Service rep Mario was very helpful and appoligized for my experience with this gun. He went over my complaints and concerns on the issues with this 1911. Made sure that he understood my complaints so he could put them in the work order and also stated that he would personally make sure that his supervisor understood what was happening. This is the letter that I sent to Mark Kresser CEO of Taurus USA Mark Kresser President and CEO Taurus USA Mark Kresser Mr. Kresser, the PT 1911 is not repaired. I finally was able to get to the range 6-12-2012. I loaded 4 clips and was shooting at a bucket at around 30 yards. The Taurus hit the bucket several times, and then started shooting low. I picked up the fired brass and found that the head of all of the fired shells were marked and the primers appeared to be hit off center again. Shot a target at 25 yards and the impact was 12”low. The mark on the head of the shell corresponds to a raised area on the slide battery surface. See picture http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...firedround.jpg My gunsmith Justin Davis (JDK Professional Gunsmithing Middleton, ID) was the one that spotted the raised surface, he also commented about the barrel link marks and poor filing job. He also found that the rear sight set screw had fallen out, and that the Sight was too loose in the groove. I am getting the opinion that this pistol is a lemon. I will be sending it back again. I have the feeling that it should be replaced with a "tested", new PT 1911. This Taurus PT 1911 has been nothing but a bad experience. I expected a good shooting 1911 from Taurus. I am not looking for a National Match Grade Bulls-eye shooting machine, Just a fun shooting gun. I understand some things go wrong, but it seems that each repair is a little worse than the last repair, and the original problem still exist. I am including picture links so you can see the poorly machined slide battery face, marks on the fired cases, and barrel link. These are High Resolution Pictures. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...lideface-1.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...shellarrow.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...llinkright.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...ellinkleft.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...iredrounds.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...iredrounds.jpg History On 4/17/2012 I purchased a Taurus 1-191101 sn NFN 36270 brand new. I fired the pistol at 25 yards using Federal 230 grn hard ball. Point of impact was 16-18" low on a 6:00 Bulls-eye hold. I field stripped the 1911 to verify proper assembly. I Fired 7 more rounds, same impact point. Used my other 1911 (an Ithaca government model M 1911 A1) with the same ammo and impact was as expected 3" high. 4/24/2012. The gun store that I purchased the Taurus at sent it in for repair. 4/26/2012 the 1911 was received by Taurus. 5/16/2012 the repair was completed Service order # 410454. Repaired The slide was replaced. Poor Accuracy Weak groove. 5/17/2012 The gun store JKD Professional Gunsmithing received the 1911. I was there when they opened the Box. I inspected the gun and found that the finish on the slide was marred, several scratches on the top and bottom of the slide, and a scratch on the frame. The barrel link is also damaged. This repair on a brand new gun is unacceptable. I contacted Customer Service, They were very apologetic, and set up FedEx shipping for the return. The FedEx terminal is 30 miles from my house, not real convenient. I will deal with it. I expect that the 1911 will be repaired to new condition or replaced. 5/22/2012 Back to Taurus for repair. service order 414074 date 5/23/2012 Replaced Slide. 5/24/2012 returned from customer service. 6/14-2012 Shipping back to Taurus for the third time... I expect the Pistol to be replaced Sincerely Glen Phillips

Wow! Sad story to be sure. I have been following this post since you first posted. I never cared much for Taurus but have given them the benifit of doubt as I have had no problems with their revolvers. Now, I dont think that I ever would buy a Taurus auto. If you are lucky this time, maybe they will replace it with a Springfield.

Last year I sent Miami my new 608 four times to get it fixed......
three times before I fired the first round ! The range/LGS where I shoot sent a small semi-auto back 3-4 times for repair last month before Taurus sent them a new/different gun, and the new one had the same issue !!! I know Taurus has a new Customer Service Leader, and she is in the process of an enormous overhaul of all they do......for what it's worth. I have had such great guns from them over the last 20+ yrs....until the 608..... and I have even purchased 2 more [M327] recently, and they are sweet. I believe the problem with Taurus/quality these days is they are trying to 'be everything to everybody' and copying everything that appears saleable. Making too many too fast coupled with the 'first of it's kind' warranty at the '06[?] Shot Show to repair free [lifetime] no matter who owns the gun. I don't think they can keep up with the faulty quality due to such mass production, and I don't think they can afford top-notch gunsmiths to keep up with the returns/repairs. If it is any consolation.......just bought MamaOzo a new expensive S&W and after 100 rounds it had to go to Smith for repairs..........it's there now. A new Ruger SP101 we bought 2mos ago has the worst nasty action I have EVER seen in any of my many Rugers over the last 50yrs.......... I'm on your side ..!!!....!!!! frustrated and pissed ![]() ![]() ![]()
