http://email.about.com/od/yahoomailt...Yahoo_Mail.htm

Most of the time you have to act quickly as server space is expensive. So when you delete mail they get rid of it fast to free up more space on the servers. They don't care about your mail because its your mail. If it is still on your phone you might be able to send it back to yourself. Also check your Sent mail if you forwarded on any of the messages they will be in there.

I would be mindful that Yahoo is in a world of hurt right now. They have been laying people off. They fired the CEO because he lied on his resume. So might want to look at one of the other free email serves out there.

I too checked my yahoo account. Yes I have one. From the inbox they go into the trash until you empty it.

Why do I have a yahoo account? I use it when signing up for websites that I am not sure about the end results. Then when they sell my info they get an address that I check once a month delete everything in it. I read nothing in my yahoo account. Because it is 100% spam. Yahoo is the most spam laden email on the web. Last month I got 13,000 spam messages and 1200 real messages. 1198 of the 1200 were more spam the 2 were from yahoo. My gmail account gets 25 spam messages a month. I know some don't like Google but I love them. and I think gmail is the best most secure free email on the web.

My Yahoo em in question I've used maybe ~8-10 years? I get maybe 0, 1, 2 spams a day, just delete them.

My other 2 Yahoo em boxes I rarely use for other junk get almost no spam.

GMail, eh never really bothered with it much, an emergency em I guess.

My ISP Vista Window Mail (used to be OE with XP, W98) is my protected real em box PLUS I USE MAILWASHER PRO there, love it, virtually zero spam.

I have Comcast. With it comes six email accounts. I have all six of them with different names on them. I can change an outgoing mail to have any name on it as the sender, before I send it ( Thunderbird ).
All the person/company etc. will see is the name I choose@comcast.net.

I have never been able to grasp why folks feel they have to have an online service. I was one of the first to have gmail. It lasted until I seen no use for it at all.

I can use any one of the accounts to signup with anything/anybody, and choose whether I want the replies to that name forwarded to me, or not.

I can't really see any advantage I don't already have.

I work on so many different machines.

1. iPad
2. Laptop
3. Home desktop
4. main work desktop
5. seconday win 7 test desktop
6. work laptop
7. desktop in server room.

So I prefer web mail. for me mail clients hinder my movement too much. Not saying they are bad I just prefer to not use them.

Thought Of the mail clients out there Mozilla's Thunderbird is one of the best.

You don't have to. Forward your email address to the gmail, yahoo or what ever account. Only you know it is forwarded and you have redundancy (back up files).

Good point, I use my ISP WMail for the most important things, banking, credit cards, etc. it's automatically backed up by my Carbonite don't know what that is just ask me, I'll get you the info.

Plus I print out real inportant docs and file, not often.

Now the "em address reqd" junk....yeah Yahoo is fine, just put it in folders to be safer. FWD, well I've done it for people's resumes and other things just in case, again not often......

......and still waiting to hear from the YAHOO TEAM!

I have used mail.com for many years as a mail forwarding agent. That way I don't have to change my email address when I change my internet provider. I've gone through over half a dozen providers in the past 20 years and have been able to keep the same email address.

I'm on hotmail for spam, yahoo for some family and friends, gmail for my photo business and use the armed_and_safe account for my 2nd Amendment business.

I switched over to Thunderbird when Eudora wouldn't work properly on Win7. It is very good, but I still miss Eudora. I was one of the first to use Eudora, as I knew one of the developers.

Oh yes I was thinking about getting nada. Nothing extremely valuable was lost. All of the em in folders was safe, just the page 1 in the INBOX itself was affected.

Create folders for personal mail, friends by name, reciepts, etc. and get in a routine to update them often, I like Sat-Sun-Mon to clean my computer, etc.

AND if you're with one of these other email services and lose your em OR any other problem act as quickly as possible!

Live and learn (hopefully from someone else ).

I can't speak for other email programs but, Thunderbird allows the user to send all their emails ( in/out ) to disk.

Thunderbird has a program that works on a flash drive. You can use it on almost any computer with internet access.
