Date of mfg of a Remington model 12cs? - The Firearms Forum

I have a Remington model 12CS that I inherited from my grandfather. I am trying to find out when it was made? All I have is it's serial number and a letter from the left side of the barrel. Do I call Remington to find out this information? It is older than the data base with all the letters so that doesn't help. Any ideas?

Serial number is 244195 and the letter is D.

For the Model 12, the serial numbers for 1914 started at 238,344 and ended at 294,526. Yours is in that range.

EDIT: I think Josh above is correct.

Or most likely correct.

1930

Date code for Y is 1930 and 1974. We know is wasn't made in 1974 and the Model 12 was made in 1930...so it must be.
