Arizona: U.S. Forest Service Seeking Public Comment on Construction of Shooting Range
Posted on June 21, 2012

Planning for the Second Knoll Shooting Range Project is underway in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. The U.S. Forest Service intends to issue a special use permit to the Arizona Game and Fish Department for the construction, operation and maintenance of a shooting range on a little over 80 acres of land within the Lakeside Ranger District. In turn, the Game and Fish Department intends to partner with the White Mountain Shooters Association for the long-term operation and maintenance of the year-round range.

The U.S. Forest Service is requesting public feedback about the purpose of and need for the project, as well as what shooting disciplines should be offered at the range. This means the U.S. Forest Service needs your help in designing the range. The proposed activities and maps are available online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/asnf...ement/projects. Once on the website, scroll down to the section titled “Forest Projects.” The Second Knoll Shooting Range project can be found under the subheading “Developing Proposal.” Comments will be received through July 7 and can be submitted by email to secondknoll@swca.com.

A public meeting is scheduled for June 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 1501 East Woolford Road, Show Low, Arizona. U.S. Forest Service staff will discuss the project and answer questions, as well as take comments from the general public. For more details about the meeting or for further information about the project, please contact Randall Chavez at (928) 368-2106.

You can count on anti-gunners to attend the meeting and send in comments opposing the range, so if we want this project to become a reality, we must let our voices be heard as well.

The NRA, Arizona Game and Fish Department and White Mountain Shooters Association ask for your support for this much-needed shooting range, and encourage you to send in comments and, if at all possible, to attend the public meeting on June 27.

This is purely to get public opinion, not ideas what disciplines or what design. It is simply to appease local residents. The Arizona Game and Fish already know how to setup a great range. Ben Avery is one of the best in the country.

I wouldn't bet on any anti's opinions getting much attention. This is Arizona.
