Combining my two favorites for a short vacation. Made 10 hr trip down to Linwood NC and had dinner last night at Stamey's BBQ in Tyro NC. Lunch today at Kerley's BBQ in Welcome NC and tonight at Jimmey's BBQ in Lexington NC. You may recognize Welcome NC as the home of Richard Childress Racing. Here is a pic of a few dollars worth of vehicles for NASCAR fans.

OK Highboy. a few more. And yes, the BBQ is amazing. Western North Carolina with a thin vinegar base "dip" . Was t Jimmey's tonight and they are nationally rated. Had ribs and slaw.
1st pic. Busch car driver my "junior" 2nd pic Busch car driven to championship by Kevin Harvick 3rd pic. "The tire" that blew out on last lap of Daytona 500 in 1990 keeping Earnhardt Sr from his Daytona win until 1998. He was comfortably in the lead 4th pic. Kevin Harvick Daytona 500 winning car (still with the confetti on it from Victory Lane celebration) Notice all the scraping from the last laps of side by side battling. Even all the painted lettering was worn off the tires on right side.

Wow, how did you find heaven while still alive. BBQ sounds like the sauce I make.
With the ice cream & BBQ, i'll be as big as a house before long. |

Yes, I love this area. Heading home tomorrow morning. Went to Bowman Gray Stadium last evening for the modified races. This is where the show "Madhouse" was filmed a few years ago I think on the History channel. It is truly nuts there. 850HP modifieds runnin on a 1/4 mle FLAT track around a football field. Quite a show. Went to Hendrix BBQ in Spencer NC today and this is our favorite in the area. Their dip is good and of course I have sweet tea coming out every pore in my body.

Oh yes, Sweet tea is huge in the south here. Every restaurant has it. Not so much in Pennsylvania.

Bowman Gray allows everyone in the pits up until close to race time. No I did not have a pass but I like watching the races so I really did not pursue one. There are a few small sets of seats in pits for teams to watch the race but I would rather sit a little higher there to see the entire track very well.

Yes, he is the old veteran. I have one of his T-shirts and it says "The Enforcer" on it. Will never forget when Burt ran across the infield and T-Boned him after Junior took Burt out on purpose. The place is nuts and the fans are incredible. You have to stand in line to get in and the banter among the different fans is priceless. Good thing they do not allow/serve alcohol there or someone would get killed. LOL
