What am I doing wrong??
I guess I just don't know how to use it. When I go to a topic, thread or just in the forum to find other discussions about a firearm and try to use "search" I get nothing. "No results". I recently posted a thread about a Ruger .44 carbine. When I search the topic it doesn't even show mine. What am I doing wrong??? Thanks, Steve

Is this it? http://thefirearmsforum.com/showthread.php?t=109026
Another trick is if you click on your username in a post, you will see a link called "find all posts by", which is how I found the thread. Bewarned, this is not really practical unless it is one of your recent posts you are searching for.

Example! If I go to "search" and type "Ruger .44 Mag. Carbine" I get no results. ZIP,ZERO, NOTHING... I know there are threads out there, I PUT ONE OUT THERE. I must be doing something wrong.

It's looking for matches of all the words exactly as you typed them. And the periods seem to be confusing the computers.
Searching for "Ruger .44 Mag. Carbine" got me zero results, but searching for "Ruger .44 Mag Carbine" (omitting the period after "Mag") brought thirty. Why? I have no idea. I'm just reporting what I found.

Probably because nobody, in a post, used the term "mag.". They either wrote mag (no period) or magnum.

But the thread title does include the period after mag. Maybe the search function doesn't search the titles?

I don't know. I did notice, that of the 30 hits I got, his thread wasn't one of them.

My guess would be that it has something to do with either the search feature in PHP or SQL.
