Default Ann Romney: Obama seeks to 'kill' Romney

Published: July 5, 2012 at 10:15 PM

WASHINGTON, July 5 (UPI) -- Presumptive U.S. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's wife, Ann Romney, said she believes the Obama campaign strategy is to "kill" Romney.

"I feel like all [Obama's] doing is saying, 'Let's kill this guy," Ann Romney said in a CBS News interview that aired Thursday. "And I feel like that's not really a very good campaign policy."

Ann Romney referred to a quote from a Democratic strategist whose name was not reported, who told Politico in August, "Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney."

Following that report, Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said any member of the Obama re-election campaign who smears Romney could be fired.

"That doesn't reflect our thinking," Axelrod said at the time. "We have real, legitimate differences with Mitt Romney."

Seated next to her husband, she told CBS Thursday: "That was their memo that came out from their campaign. And it's like, 'Not when I'm next to him you better not.'"

She said she believes her husband has "the answers to turn this country around. He's the one that's got to bring back hope for this country, which is what they ran on last time. But the truth is, this is the one that has the hope for the -- for America."

Asked what qualities she sees most misrepresented in her husband, she said that "he's not as approachable as I am or something like that. That's like, really kind of funny to me because it's all -- it's all backwards."

"That'll change," Mitt Romney told his wife. "That'll come with time."

She said her husband has considered choosing a woman as his running mate.

"And I'd love that option as well," she said.
