I would appreciate anyone's help in identifying a revolver given to me by my grandfather. I know it's a pinfire, and it appears to be a 7 mm, but I don't know how to determine the manufacturer or age. Here are the details:
-Unknown age / manufacturer -6-shot -Octagon barrel 3 7/8" length -Trigger folds forward, no trigger guard -Ivory handle -Loaded by folding out the right side of the recoil shield and inserting one round at a time -Some inlay work with gold lines that outline flower/leaf design -The number "6289" is etched on the right side of the gun above the trigger If anyone can give me some hints on how to determine the year/manufacturer, I'd be very thankful.

Hi Bill......welcome to TFF.
From your description, sounds like it could be any one of dozens of pinfires. Can you post some pictures? Full right and left profile and closeups of any unusual features. Also....please tell us of all of the writing and proofmarks on it....exactly as they appear. |

Hi Bill......welcome to TFF.
Thanks - it's great to be here. I own modern guns, but have no experience with anything like this so it's nice to have a place to come for more info. I've attached profile pics for each side. The only markings I can find are as follows: The number 6289 appears in the box above the trigger as viewed from the right side, and also appears on the right side of the barrel. The word "Brevete" (patented, right?) appears on the barrel directly above 6289. I can't find any other proof marks anywhere; as you can see there is some wear so it's possible they've been worn down or obscured. |

most likely made in belgium "lefaucheux" type. however, very similar to actual pinfires produced by eugene lefaucheux in paris. further study is warranted. 1860-1870. according to ab zhuk "handguns of the world"

It looks to me more a belgium made 7 mm pinfire revolver .
By the look is't more a ARENDT type with the ejection rod fixed in the butt of the gun Is there nothing written on the right side , juste after the cylindre or barrel ? http://www.lesgrosbarbares.info/lefa...t/arendt_2.JPG http://www.lesgrosbarbares.info/lefa...t/arendt_3.JPG LF 54 Last edited by lefaucheux 54; 03-03-2013 at 12:52 PM.. |
