Re: scope for marlin 336
You have received a lot of info. Heres more...You have a well made rifle. probably with microgroove riflng.. Excellent choice. Buy the best scope you can afford, because you can only shoot as well as you can see. Forget the see through mounts, you want to be able to look at the cross hairs immediately when you quickly mount the rifle to your shoulder. Hunting in woods and brush, you;ll probably never get a shot at a deer beyond 80 yards, however a 30/30 sighted in at 150 yards will easily kill a deer out to 225 yards considering bullet drop. I've done that. Any 30/30 ammo off the shelf will do the job although I'm partial to Federal ammo. A deer is a 12x12inch target at the shoulder. You must become proficient at shooting within 5 seconds after putting you crosshairs on the target or deer. Too many target shooters are slow to shoot. Practice dry firing. Enjoy a well made rifle for many years. Quoting my son and his Marlin 336 in .35 Remington..."One shot, meat in the pot and no tracking!" I forgot, get a hammer extension also, easier to cock wearing gloves.
