What better testament to the 1911's reliability. 100 years and still going strong.

It says they will be shot out, 15,000-rounds plus. Do they really last that long?

Actually I think 15,000 is quite conservative.

I remember shooting a couple 1911s in the army that rattled like crazy when you picked them up, yet they shot just fine. I wouldnt want to try and win any matches with them but I would bet they had their share of rounds thru them.

Close Quarter Battle Pistol
Ooooooh that gives me goose bumps... I love it. I know a bajillion people have been whacked by 9mm. BUT... they'll bounce right off a ghetto rats head... ... the .45 won't... ![]()

I wonder if they have the plastic triggers and main spring housings? I would hope that they provided metal for durability.

I was at Cark field in the phillipines in the 70's.I bought a 1911 wwII relic off the black market for protection. That thing had a rattle and kinda ugly for most taste but it was well loved. All I could get was ball ammo but we learned how to dr them up a wee bit. That was my fav pistol of my life.It never failed me when I really wanted her too and saved me hiney on more than one occasion.Them old 1911 are just such a great design Thank the Lord for John Browning.

I likey.
![]() Probably not a big deal, but plastic would help with cost, and weight-savings. Also, plastic won't rust, and there are some very durable plastics out there. |

The 1911 has been around for over 100 years for a reason. Even when there are newer, different designs out there.

So, they went with the lowest bidder then. And the least quality then likely.

It would interesting to see the test data. I would like to see how well Smith did in the testing.

![]() These are some of the targets I shot last week with it. Rapid fire at 7 yards: ![]() Slow Fire at 100 yards: ![]() Shoot them, clean them repeat as often as necessary. Replace what needs replacing and it will last longer than you. My opinion is they are only issuing 12,000 of those guns to the Marines but we have 200,000 in uniform fit for duty and they all should have one. Along with cases of ammo and big blocks of range time to get proficient and stay proficient with them.

Hopefully they WILL have metal rather than plastic for trigger and mainspring parts, AND hopefully they will NOT be constructed of the Series 80 style with the passive safety, which is capable of causing the 1911 to misfire - that being said, the US Military did exactly what I have hoped they would do for over 20 years - realize that they replaced a better battle pistol with a lesser one when they replaced the 1911-A1 with the 9mm Beretta. THANK GOD.

Im wondering. The 1911 was developed to fight the Moro tribes in the phillipines because the .38 wasnt getting the job done cause the tribesman were on drugs to give em bravery.I wonder if the same isnt true facing jihadist pumped on heroin or something.

15k rounds, just sounds like a good weekend! put almost 100k thru my loaded before I sold it to a buddy and it's still 'on the road' spitting lead with no problems. pretty accurate too!
good reason this gun is still around

Too bad NATO stuck us on 9mm. With ball rounds, .45 ACP is better.

They didn't stick us with anything, the politically motivated panty wearers, (who are the direct descendants of the panty wearers that gave us the M16), gave us the M9. It was about money and PC or as I call it, the effeminization of our military fighting force.
