Default saftey notch

I have a colt 1911 USARMY. S/N187***. looks to me to be made by Colt in 1917. My question is about the slide. It has no notch for the thumb saftey. Any body have any thing on this? I have more pics if neaded.

Yes, post more good, clear, ndetailed pics. Protect the last three of the serial # with a tiny piece of masking tape, blackened with a magic-marker.
