After the 2 shots at the 400yd mark, I set me up a target out to a lasered 600 yards. Really had to fight the cross winds with the Savage 11 and again, was useing the Hornady 40gr. V-Max ammo.
From where the target was set up, I had winds coming in from behind the target from the 1'oclock position and from where I was set up, had 5mph winds (somewhat steady), coming in from my 3'oclock position. My first shot was about 2" low off the bottom of the target and brought the scope up on 4 Mils and shot high and left off center. I put the 3 mils on and was low at about the same distance, 5 inches. With the wind not letting up and the heat/sun bearing down, called it a day! ![]() The Savage is "in there" and with some work on the stock and a better day (cooler weather/temps) I'll see what its real potential is...a few pics...

help your self as always
i figured the AKM is 22 1/2 " from the front or the fore grip to the butt so about 21 inch on that angle and lined up your arrows and size from butt to grip wont be perfect but close enough thats the al queda magazine tribute pic (sorry) of the month, Last edited by jack404; 07-19-2012 at 10:00 AM.. |

I like it and have to show a friend of mine with the "same thoughts" as me!!!!
(as time will tell) The savage needs some tweeks worked out on it and hope to have, at least, a good 1- 1&1/2" group at 600 in the right conditions and practice, practice and practice in my sleep, so to speak. Ya take and rewind all the bad shots in your mind and "play'em" over and over when your thoughts are idle, it helps the next shooting seccion. (seems to work with me)

you know at about 600 ( give or take 50 ) they tend to start to spiral ??
friend who shoots the .204 found a 54 grainer and reloads them longer projectile may not fit some mags ... but he's get 10 outta 10 on a 8" x 8" at 600 every time ( bar wind ) |

Looks good to me. I can only marvel at those long range shots. You know it is the wind hitting those oak leaves on the stock that is causing your problem.

10 out of 10 on an 8" square target is dang right nice! (I've put off getting set up reloading way too long and HAVE to "get into it" by all means!) As you know, with factory ammo, you're at the mercy of what the factory ammo "allows" you with the shots/groups in your rifle. and alot of hits and misses and all in-between.

he's buying factory pulling the projectile and seating in a new one , same powder everything
the longer projectile ( more weight or mass ) spins faster longer but it really flips out apparently , just farther out ( aint seen that yet ) past what you could really aim with any accuracy , what he was talking i dont know a scope that adjusts that much he like to shoot it at dawn the loss of stability makes vapour trails in the moist air , i'll see it next time i'm up that way but i've done it with the 22-06 with the old HRBC vulps 44 grns i think the 2900 fps mark does something Last edited by jack404; 07-20-2012 at 08:49 AM.. |

It'd be nice to drop in some boat tail bullets and with a heavier bullet weight, ought to be a heck of alot better.
And I do know why he likes to shoot early.... the day I shot, the mirage was haveing its toll as well. A person wouldnt think it'd make that much of a difference, but when the stable target looks to be moveing, big difference. |
