Default Marlin model 60 question

I recently purchased a Marlin model 60 from a pawnshop for my daughter and it has been at least 25 years since ive shot one. It shoots and cycles fine but after a few shots ive notices smoke coming from where the barrel meets the reciever as well as from in between the reciever and stock. it isnt alot of smoke but was wondering if i should be concerned. should i return the weapon?

I would first break it down and give it a very detailed cleaning. Its probably just residue that is coming off when its getting hot.

Welcome to TFF also, just realized it was your first post. You well find many model 60 fans around here. they are great guns, mine is the stainless version.

Could be too much oil from the last cleaning.

I would agree, they don't like much oil. Mine will smoke a little as well.

Probably what they ^^^ said.

How many is "a few"?
Is the barrel/receiver getting hot, if so, how hot?
