Default Just got my first DA revolver

I just picked up a used Charter Arms Undercover .38spl for $170. It's one of the earliest models, made in 1967 or 68. The finish is pretty worn, but nothing a little liquid bluing wont handle, and the action and lockup are perfect. I haven't shot it yet, but my dealer said it shoots really well. I'll post pictures when I'm able.

Congrats on the Charter Arms Revolver. I've been trying like heck to get a guy sell me his older C.A. .38 special as he's been teetering back and forth as ro weather he's gonna keep it or not.
His is a great shooting .38 for the barrel lenght!

I shot it for the first time today. It shoots pretty well and seems fairly accurate for a 2" barrel. Since it was my first time shooting a gun that small and light, the recoil kind of surprized me, but it is managable. I really like this little gun.

Practice, practice with it and the recoil on them (at first) is a bit, but a bit of getting used too and the recoil seems to "fade", if you will. First time I'd shot one, I thought...Dang! Finally got my grip on the grips down pat and loved it!
Congrats on your revolver!

I have a Charter Bulldog 44 Special Ive had for a very long time, and love it - still shoots very well. While Charter Arms and CHARCO have never had the reputation that is normally associated with Colt, S&W and Ruger, I personally like em, and everyone can appreciate their reasonable cost.

Charter makes good guns, they sell em cheap, and they don't charge enough to pay the gun gurus to advertize for them, so the gun gurus have decided that Charter must make crappy guns!

Good buy . Those early revolvers where good shooters. That worn blue finish is just showing off its character and age a bit.

Would you that say they are good guns consider Charter to be of better quality than say a small frame Taurus? That is, of what is being manufactured today. The reason I ask is that I have a bad taste in my mouth about Taurus after having owned a model 85. But the retailers all seem to rank Taurus as a step about Charter in quality. Accepting that as gospel has prompted me to stay away from Charter. In the past I took a pretty long look at the Charter .44. Would you all recommend them as reliable pieces?

runningonmt I happen to own both. 2 1/2 year old CA and old taurus 85ss. Hard to compare to new taurus as I have not touched one. I will say I would not trade my old model 85ss for a brand new best from anyone. This revolver has been well used. Rode in my poket for 20 years and after a little smoothing of trigger parts. Just radiusing the edges mainly and a wolf rd hammer spring for my girls to learn with some years back It has a trigger pull that is beyound lite ,smooth and reliable. 4 1/2lb DA pull 2lb SA pull and hardly even has a cylinder ring on it. Now the charter arms UL is not in this revolvers class but does it work well. And also goes bang ever time. All I can say is reguardless of make you need to know what a good revolver feels and functions like and feel out the new one. Work the trigger feel how it ratates. See how well it locks up and make your choice. I would again feel good carry'n ether of my 5 shooters even though they are so very different.

I own both Charter Arms guns, and Taurus guns. Fit, and finish, are fairly close, but as far as I'm concerned Charter makes a better gun. I used to own a CA in .44spcl, it was stolen from me almost 30 years ago. That little .44 would bust a pony bottle at 35 steps all day long! It loved the Winchester Silver Tips! I will carry any of my CA guns, but I will not carry any of the Taurus guns I own!

My son....Sheriff and gun store owner thinks very highly of Charter Arms.
I have never gotten comfortable with the action feel and sound, altho
they seem quite solid and well built.
I have had/have many Taurus/Rossi over time and without hesitation,
always recommended them, with 'other' choices first.
Some of you know the problems I had with my new 8" Taurus 608
last year....4 trips to Miami in as many months. It sorta put a bad taste
in my mouth, but Taurus made good on repairs, and I really enjoy
her these days.
But I did hesitate to buy another......until I found the M327's [discontinued]
on CDNN for $219.......and rode the fence until I broke down and
bought two of them......and after hundreds and hundreds of rounds
thru both of them, flawlessly, I am so glad I did !
The actions are smooth and sweet and they are incredibly accurate.
One is a Duo-Tone 2" and the other is a blued 3"ported......
