Researching some 1911's since I won't be buying till January. I really like the case hardened Olympic arms model : westerner? Any good or bad with this gun?

Don't know much about a lot of the .45's out there, but you will love the caliber! Big Bullets make Big Holes!

I'm not familiar with Olympic but what I am familiar with is that you're first 1911 won't be your last.

I'm not a huge fan of anything Olympic makes; I think you can get more for your money. That's just my .02c though, I don't think you'll be disappointed in it if you bought it. I personally would recommend the STI line of 1911's. IMO, the best bang for your 1911 buck.

I like color case hardened in its place but that's not its place. That looks almost nasty.

I don't have a case hardened anything or 1911 kills 2 birds here

I'm a fan of Oly arms, I don't have their 1911 only because they're usually sold out of parts, was trying to build one but they were backed up. I use their M4 for work downrange and know one of the guys who works there, it's a good quality business. Blanks are cast in CA someplace and shipped up here to be machined and assembled.

As much as I like them, I would recommend something else to start just based on pricing and availability. Can't go wrong with a Springfield Armory, Kimber, the Sig is looking really good.... pretty much everyone is making them now. Pick your flavor! You won't be dissapointed for certain.
