I've heard (while being aware that you could hear anything) that a police dog is considered a LEO and if you kill it, in the eyes of the law, you've killed a police officer. Not sure how true all of that is, but I feel for him if they do indeed deem that Mr Mathis handled him wrong.

i think we've 6 or 7 children dead in the past few years from asian folks who leave their kids in cars while gambling .. now the casino's patrol the car parks etc

but leaving a pet in a car will get you 5 years at least here .. the asians get about the same

I think it should be an eye for an eye for that crime...you leave a helpless child or animal to die locked up, you die locked up the same way......

I was sitting here wondering where where's al sharpton in all this.... Then I read further and saw it was a yellow lab. Poor little guy gets no support..

On a serious note I'm shocked how anyone can be so negligent with a hound.

Unfortunately the police departments look at the dog's like tools. As an example,if a criminal is trying to kill a police dog the police officer can not kill the crminal becausen the dog is only a tool. Unfortunatley dog's die due to being kept in hot police cars quite often and it is despicable.

I live in Iowa and had not seen this on any local news sources. Bet they gloss over this incident and nothing will happen. But if it were a non-cop...watch out.

That is sad, can you imagine the suffering the poor dog had to go through its last minutes of life? Thats a shame! Whoever left the poor animal inside the car needs to be charged with animal cruelty and hauled off to jail but since it was a cop then the law isnt going to do anything to the person because he IS the law.

People these days are being taught not to be concerned with anyone but themselves and this is another example of what you get when this is what you ask for. Maybe he should be locked in a car in 95 degree heat for an hour or so, I bet that would change his priorities. Idiot!

Just had one last month in Tucson, AZ. The county declined to press charges, but the city attorney is going forward with animal neglect, a misdemeanor. Another one down there was killed a couple years ago and that cop got off with nothing.
They call the dogs officers and you will be charged with a felony if you injure or kill it, but if it is an officer they decide the dog is not worth the expense of firing the officer and hiring a new one.
It doesn't even have to be a dog. An officer here in Phoenix was killed by fellow officers(err committed suicide...) all the evidence and the homicide detectives say it was murder. The coroner declared it a suicide and refuses to meet with the family to discuss his findings.

I do too. I haven't see ANYTHING about this at all. Saw a bit on Verizon news on my phone, but it was a depressing subject so I didn't read it. Sad that the news covers for the cops, but if it was a citizen it would be on EVERY channel and they would be persecuting the person.
