J. Stevens A&T Co., PAT APR 17 94, 22 LR, condition and value?

I am looking for an opinion on the age, condition and value of this gun. From my research I think it was made between 1894 and 1912 when they stopped making the octagonal half barrel, although I may have that all wrong. My father in law had this and a Little Scout wrapped and stored for as long as I can remember. I'll post about that one separately. We are looking to sell them and have no idea of the worth. I am trying to upload pictures. I have more if there is any other part you need to see.

Welcome to TFF.

Flayderman's Guide lists the Very Good - Excellent value range of $250 - $600 for the standard model Favorite, and that's the nicest one I've seen in awhile.

Thank you for deleting that. I reposted it. I thought it was in good condition, but if anyone can give me a little education I would appreciate it. I would like to know what I'm talking about with any potential buyer. I'm not even sure where to begin to try to sell it.

to be honest its the nicest one i've seen in a while the bore and other parts that a very hard to get decent pic's of would be the make/break on this , assuming its all good i cant see why it would not get $475 up

So is this considered the "standard" Favorite model? I can see where it differs from the one you posted the link to. This one has an adjustable sight, it doesn't have the screw underneath with the ring on it (take down screw?) and the butt is curved more. What does all this tell you about the date it might have been made?

i'm no expert on these , they are common here but all well worn and used and theres so many variations , but i know what i'd pay if there , its a very nice looking rifle

About all I know about this and the Little Scout in my other post is that they belonged to my father-in-law's uncle and they were used for "shooting varmints in the back yard", so I don't believe they were shot a lot.

I overlooked the metal butt plate before, and you may have the Ideal Model 44, which looks almost identical to the Favorite except it's larger and heavier:

How much does it weigh and what's the barrel length?

Measure the barrel from breech end where you load it.

A Favorite will weigh only around 4-1/2 lbs. but the Ideal 44 model over 7 lbs.

Good morning,

I measured and weighed the gun. It weighs 7-1/2 pounds and the barrel from the breech to the end is 24 inches. I am also adding some more pictures of details of the gun to see if that helps.

It's definitely an Ideal No. 44, and Flayderman's value range for that model in rimfire calibers is $350 - $900 (the 44 was also made in centerfire calibers).

Sorry for first misidentifying it as a Favorite model, but except for size and the rifle style metal butt plate they look identical when there's nothing to show scale.

A No. 44 that nice is far more scarce than a Favorite, and if you plan to sell I'd suggest one of the larger gun auction houses, such as Rock Island Auctions.

In your Little Scout post you stated 'I know very little about guns' so to explain:

A rimfire gun uses a cartridge with priming compound that ignites the powder in the rim of the shell, and the firing pin is off centered. Cartridges for centerfire guns have a primer in the center of the shell head.

The difference in barrel lengths listed in the adv. would be to compensate for weight difference, as the rimfire cartridges had a smaller bore then the larger centerfire cartridges and thus would weigh a bit more if equal length.
