our season opens next weekend.
just what I need. another reason to be up early on weekends. so now my options are walleye crappie perch northerns ducks geese doves and in 3 weeks we start pheasant I find myself spending the week days planning my weekend and my wife's head is starting to spin. "you're going for ducks? I thought you were going for perch" "well, I am doing ducks first. then if it gets slow I will try for crappies and northerns later before the evening when the geese come in. see you Monday morning"

For 30+ years that's the way I lived my life too. But my list was longer than yours.
![]() crappie perch bass spoon bill cat crawfish ducks geese dove pheasant frogs squirrels coons deer hogs turkey and a few other things that I grew up eating in LA. A cajun will eat anything, so the saying goes!

We don't hunt ducks in the fall, only in Spring before ice out on the Yukon. It's a seasonal thing that the Whites learned off the Indians. Ducks don't have anywhere to land as no open water in the river, but most small ponds have melted off by early May so it's polluted with mallards, diving ducks, and cranes along shoreline. People eat duck for a few weeks. Nobody has ever heard of duck stamps, limits, or fall hunting. A few years back, some new fed park guy said the spring duck hunting had to end, was illegal; was laughed at by everybody as they had always hunted Spring ducks as far back as anybody could remember. Nothing came outta the fed guys idears and people still shoot all kinds of ducks right before ice out.
If Americans only woke up to what power they really have over Government, we would have a better country; but I doubt they ever will. |

Feds in the bush is kind of like "a duck out of water";
not their normal habitat and are not welcomed with open arms. |
