Hey guys I finally ran out of unique and decided to try titegroup. I'm loading 158 gr cast RN. Lymans 49 doesn't list a load. Hodgson lists a load for a LSWC 3.2 to 3.8. Lymans cast handbook lists a FN 2.9 to 3.3.
I'm shooting from a 357 so +P is ok. I'm thinking of starting at 3.4 or 3.5. What do you guys think?

4.0 gr under a 158 is my load.
5.0 under a 125 shoots well too.

How hot is that load? highest I found was 3.8. I know those are kinda conservative for liability reasons. Would that be +P load?

Its low level .357 loads in .357 brass. You didnt specify if you are loading .38 brass or .357. I dont load much .38 so i gave you .357 loads. Both would be in the +P range for .38 spec.

I use 4.2gr Titegroup in my .357 cases with a 158gr rnfp head. This works well for my Marlin 1894 lever action gallery rifle.

I would still start at 3.2, just don't load up too many. Not sure how far the range is for you to go test them; but I usually don't get to the range as often as I'd like.
I will load up across a "bell-curve" with my loads. Ie - load 3 rounds at 3.2, 3 @3.3, 5 @3.4 10 @3.5, 10 @3.6 and a few up to the max. This way, I can minimize trips for testing loads. I usually end up pulling a few bullets, but not many.

Well I would recommend a diaper, maybe an adult sized or something like a "Depends" to help you with your load. That is my first thought.

In my Modern Reloading by Richard Lee:
158gr Lead Bullet in .357 Titegroup 4.5gr = 1028 fps, 5.0gr = 1,610 fps 158gr Lead Bullet in 38 Special Titegroup 3.2gr. = 815 fps, 3.8gr = 1,475 fps I have never used Titegroup so a report back would be ideal. Last edited by 76Highboy; 09-23-2012 at 07:01 PM.. |

I tend to use max .38 spec loads in my .357 plinkin loads. or somewhere between max .38 and starting .357. Seems to be a good sweet spot for light .357 loads..

Forget that it is a 357 and just load for a 38SP start with loads in the Lee Book and the Hodgdon Web I only target shoot any more. I use nthing but tightgroup for 38SP,9mm,40S&W,45ACP and have been able tyo work up very accurate loads which depends on the gun

I know that. I forgot to mention it was 38sp in my first post. Problem was I can find no load data for a 158gr cast round nose bullet using titegroup for 38sp.
