Two US Marines have been referred to trial by courts martial for urinating on the bodies of Taliban dead in Afghanistan and posing for photographs with them, the Pentagon says.
The charges against Staff Sergeants Joseph Chamblin and Edward Deptola come a month after three other Marines were sanctioned administratively for their role in the July 27, 2011 incident in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
A videotape that surfaced on the internet in January showed four US troops urinating on three bloodied corpses, and one of the men, apparently aware he was being filmed, saying, "Have a great day, buddy," referring to one of the dead.
The Pentagon said charges against the sergeants alleged "violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice for their involvement in urinating on deceased Taliban fighters and for posing for unofficial photographs with human casualties".

They also were charged with dereliction of duty for a number of other command failures involving younger Marines.
The decision to refer the sergeants for trial comes in the midst of a wave of violent anti-American protests in the Muslim world over a US-made film that ridicules the Prophet Mohammed.

this is yet another reason to leave; this line of logic will only lead to more US KIA's and won't do a thing to help any country involved. The news will never show the good that soldiers are doing there, only the (rather minor sometimes) events that give us a black eye. Kinda similar to gun crimes vs LAC's using firearms responsibly.

They were stupid for videotaping and publishing so I don't feel too bad for 'em, even though I could care less if they peed on some enemy corpses. But comforting to know we let murderers go unscathed and unpunished, cripes.

Who is the idiot that let this pix out? You can't put men in a combat live or die situation and expect them to act normal. They should have been reprimanded and let go. The pix should have been destroyed. How did the press ever get this?

how? u tube. and facebook. just my opinion, but those things are like std's. send it to one and everybody gets it. but i agree with the sentiment on our armed forces. shake the hand of everyone you see in uniform and thank them

they are sergeants, should know better and at least not show their faces. alot of things in nam make that a joke. the bodys were of the enemy so who gives a rats .. .I dont, and would have done worse im sad to say. war is war, oohraah
