Default Had a accident yesterday...

Well, long story short I opened a radiator cap on the job at my service station and got totally doused with boiling coolant on my face, arms, and shoulders. I have severe 3rd degree burns and am off work until further notice. I'm typing this with one hand and only one eye as my other eye is swollen shut. Please pray for me.

Prayers sent! Been there, done that! Praying that there will be no infections, or scars, and for a speedy recovery. I had to learn about hot radiators the hard way to!

I feel for you man. I deal with hot cars all day at work. I found a tool that removes the cap like a pliers and it works great. it keeps your hands off the cap and gives you a good solid grip. it came from snap-on if memory serves me. I know it won't help you now but it may help others in the future.

Back in the late 70s, I leaned on a radiator hose to take off an air cleaner and the hose exploded, spraying me with boiling water and anti freeze across my chest and arms and neck. It melted my skin between my left arm and my chest together and it had to be cut apart. I still have scars from it and I will never forget the pain that came with it. The smell was terrible. I spent a week in the burn unit and had to be dipped in a whirlpool tank and have my skin peeled off. So, I know what you are going thru and I am sending up a prayer for you.

Ouch. I think you have me beat. I burned myself with a cutting torch, but mine was only a small area.

Silvadene is your friend. I'm sure they have already given you a tub of it, but if they havent, ask them. I treated my burns with neosporin for about 2-3 weeks with virtually no healing. Used silvadene for a week and it was almost healed. My friend is a vet and she ordered it for me. Lots cheaper that way.

About 20 mins after that the biggest majority of the pain will be gone.

It'll likely still peel etc because it's already blistered, BUT the pain will be gone and the healing process commenced - the good helps with the healing.

Good for everything burnt, from sunburn to yes - 2nd and even 3rd degree burns.

The Hawaiians use it a lot.

Everyone should have a plant or two growing in the garden.

You can always apply more the next day etc... fear of burns will dissipate a lot once you get used to using raw aloe vera..

Try to avoid the pharmaceutical creams that contain Aloe vera - they have all sorts of oils that trap the heat in and make it worse not better IMHO - juts big pharma trying to cash in on something natural that works!

When you put the goo on if you want REAL instant relief stand in front of a refrigerated air con - the evap effect along with the aloes ill feel ice cold and no pain at all....

The worst part of burns is NOT being able to get relief from the pain.

Don't think they are allowed to use raw leaves in a hospital (no profits in it for big pharma go figure), so the only way you'll get relief is self treat.

If you don't believe me - self treat a small area that only got 1st degree burns and see if ti works before trying the more seriously burnt area.

Let us know how it works out for you.

Best of luck with it.
I have always used the aloe plant for burns. He should also keep well hydrated and the wounds will probably weep fluid. Use STERILE bandages and wash hands before and after changing the dressing.

Thanks all. Beth, I wasn't screaming at all because of the initial shock of it all. Today swelling has got worst and it's hurting a bit more even with the vicodin in me.

Burn pain is almost the worst pain you can have. The worst is a tooth ache.
