Default Big Hawk after my Lovebirds

Guys & Gals,
I raise Lovebirds, I have (36) in my patio avery. I now have a very large hawk trying to get at them. I also feed all the wild birds in my backyard feeder. The hawk kills the wild birds and eats them. He just won't go away. I need to get rid of this hawk. I'm thinking maybe shoot him with .22 shot shell, not to kill him but scare him away, what do you think would be the best way to get rid of a persistant killer hawk? Where can I find .22 shot shells in North Texas?

I have a pair of Redtail Hawks and a Chicken Hawk
that are pests like you have.....
I sneak up when I can, under the tree, and surprise them
but it only works for a month or so, then they return.
I don't want to kill them, but I have had the thought......

Back East, I had this redtail that would end up on the high roost bar in my chicken coop. The hens would all be sitting in their boxes, nervous as one can imagine. The redtail couldn't figure out how to get them outta their layin boxes, ha ha. I'd walk in and hawk would swoop right past my face, a couple times I felt his feathers. I finally waited and shot him. Owls were trouble too.

Here in Alaska, we have had eagles try to steal 7 week pups from inside kennel fence. Had these Harrior Hawks kill just about everything around here. Even tried flying away with one of our cats, cat got the best of hawk actually and came back with deep hole in his back.

We shoot everything that comes around the house. I think the bounty on hawks needs to be brought back, and fish eaters too.

People around here hang a few dead ravens upside down around their doglots, ravens don't even think about visiting.

As I do try my best to leave nature to itself,
occasionally we have to balance it in our
personal surroundings.....right or wrong.
We also have developed a bobcat problem
that has demanded my attention, and the
coyote saga has been remedied.

You can find the .22 Snake shot at Wal Mart, CCI makes it. If you live in a home where you can not shoot a gun because of neighbors, call your local Animal Control for advice. The Shot Shells for .22 won't kill the hawk, probably won't even scare him much.

I might try a bunch of BBs in the pouch of a slingshot and give it to them if it were me.

Give it one scare and then kill it. If he thinks it is easy food, you may scare him off, but his belly will get the better of him.

Maybe because it's against Federal law to harm a raptor?

Killin' it is a fine idea. Just don't get caught.

It's funny. Boy's Life magazine. The official magazine of the Boy Scouts of America. Can't see this happening today. Can't even see 'em advertising guns, today, let alone this ad.

You have to ask yourself are the lovebirds worth the life of one hawk.

I don't know how the rest of the world looks at things, but if it belongs to me, and something is trying to take it, then yes, my whatever is worth the life. My Rhode Island Red chicken is worth the life of a California Condor. My pet rabbit is worth the life of a Bald Eagle. If the last Grizzly Bear in the world was trying to kill my sheep, I would happily shoot the Grizzly.

And then he would frolic about, wildly, with much glee.

Thanks to all you guys for your input. I have found .22lr shotshell at my local walmart store. I have a western sa six shooter I will use the shotshell in. Maybe if I blow a few of his tail feathers out he will find another place to hunt for food.

Ha, I hope they never let any wolves go around where you all call home. Once the deer, elk, moose populations drop to 10% of what they were before ole wolf came in the picture; you'd all get a rude awakening to reality of the balance of nature; no joke. Here in Alaska, eagles take 25% of all the caribou calves as newborns, add in the wolves & bear plus 5-10% of total taken that man shoots; boy of boy; hard for the bou's numbers to increase.

The Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/Re...a/mbtandx.html

Here's an alphabetical list of bird protected by the act. Under HAWK you find a long list, including Cooper's.
