Default Finally shot a rifle

So I went up to my girls camp today to get my rifle ready for hunting season in two weeks. It was the first time I had ever shot a rifle and only the second time I shot my shotgun. It was a lot of fun overall. I have a little shoulder pain from all the shooting but definitely well worth it. Now if only I can put it to good use here soon!

They were together every time, first couple of sets were low and to the right but with a couple clicks on the scope got me to the center. They were all really close to each other which was awesome. We also put a bottle out there and I, with the least amount of experience, was the only one to hit it! Definitely feels great to shoot. Didnt realize how powerful the 30-06 was.

take care shooting near your windshield!

On a shooting outing years ago, we were firing my buddy's .338 win mag over the hood of my truck (among other things, but that was the heaviest caliber). didn't notice until it was time to go, my windshield was completely spiderwebbed, ooooops....

Good luck on your hunts!

I shot the electric meter off the pole once. Looking thru the scope, trying to shoot a crow. Had a clear shot at the crow, and couldn't see the electric meter in the scope! The bore of the barrel is almost 2" below the line of sight thru the scope!

I was able to hit a bottle at about 60 yards haha. We also took turns shooting the remington 870 super mag with turkey shot seeing that it is turkey season. Blew my girlfriend back about two feet first time she shot it.

I've got the same 870 and I regularly use 3 1/2" 1 1/2oz BB. when just plinking or having fun it hurts but when the honkers come in you don't feel a thing. same thing with a .30-06 and/or a .300 winmag.
ya wanna have fun? do 12 rounds with a 300 winmag and then 6 of the big 12s. I garuntee you will have trouble driving a stick shift home from the range.

what'd you get for a 30-06?

I got a Remington model 770 stainless camo. Came with a nice 3-9x40mm scope already mounted on it.

Ja shotguns have to be shot LEANING into it. Much like an M203 or the old M-79 grenade launchers. A 12 gauge is a Big round for anyone of slim build and if they are not SET before firing.

I suggest you pick up a copy of military markmanship shooting positions and the use of slings. From your curernt shooting you can only get BETTER

I have one and been told if you try to fire too many rounds (one after another contiinious fire) the rifle tends to malfunction. Great for hunting but not a range rifle OR a fire fight. (something I have been trained to think about)

I once shot a 300 weatherby magnum across a car hood. Did not break the window but even leaning into rifle the bloody thing dang near pushed me on my B%tt.

^ yeah, that's what my .458 does to me, that son of a gun is a freakin' artillery piece! 405gn moving slow is a nice kick, 500gn full power loads are downright brutal. The gun with the scope is over 12lbs also.

I have to bunch up a fleece jacket or something similar to pad my shoulder when I shoot the damn thing supported, it kicks so hard it torques your neck. It is NOT a prone gun! Offhand it's no problem, just a nice push but sitting or prone, just plain hurts.

We used to mess around when someone would bring their girlfriend around shooting, we'd be shooting 7/8oz loads in the 12g and would show her, look, it's not bad at all!

Then we'd slip a buckshot round in there and hand it off, looking back that was pretty stupid! Could have sworn them off guns for good, I'll never know. but it was still pretty funny...

I did get my wife to shoot the .458 win mag once though, she fired 2 rounds from it at the local rifle range. I made sure she was well prepared though, now she's got bragging rights.

Speaking about the 458 win mag, I have this buddy from Covington Ga that hunts with us here in Ak. He has hunted pretty much everywhere I think. So, he had this 350 lb blk bear 30 yards away and he shoots it with 458, bear runs at him and second shot bear goes down about 15 yards away. My buddy had a few beers in him and thought bear was gonna tear him up; bear was headin back where he lived and my buddy was between here and there, ha ha. But that 458 win mag didn't stop that blk bear first shot either. Wife and I drove up, we even heard the shots, and my buddy was chewin on his words; quite humorous actually.
