Default cigars and whisky

Never really had any before but I been smoking some cigars. Not real expensive ones' . And I wonder what kind you guys on the TFF like? I like the mild ones. I seen some on the internet but the prices are real high. Any recomenndations for a new smoker who is on a tite budget?

And then whisky. I have liked a sippin whisky. My wealthy friend sometimes gives me some good Scotch when I visit and it is the best but I bet it is a lot of money. I read about Single Malt scotch. Any of you scotch drinkers in TFF? What kind is good? Is that worth it?

I mainly smoke marlboro cigarettes but when I smoke cigars I smoke the cheap swisher sweet cigars. As for whiskey its only straight jim beam whiskey with ice but maybe just once every couple of weeks

Go to jrcigar.com for a great selection of cigars from astronomical to affordable (JR Alternatives and others) and most any Scotch is drinkable, some a bit more affordable than say a single malt. Give Famous Grouse a try, also Black & White, Johnny Walker Red. You also may try Jameson's, it's Irish, but also very drinkable and not that expensive.

For sipping, I really enjoy a good 100% Agave Tequila. There are several, find one you can afford and give it a try.

I smoked and collected cigars for about 10 years. I stopped around 6 years ago.

Like most things, the longer that I smoked cigars the more my tastes grew to the stronger and stronger brands. Same with wines and beer.

Look up some Dona Elba "Verdadero" cigars. They are organic and have a mild smooth flavor. They shouldnt be that expensive compared to most, but they were the top selling cigar on cigar.com for a record number of weeks a year or two ago. I really enjoy them. I knew the owner personally. We would go by the plantation on our missionary trips to Nicaragua. Try atleast one. They have another one that I hear is good. It is a more full bodied cigar called the Grand Mamba.

On cigars I've been a smoker for ~43 years, the last 20 nothing but premiums which is what I recommend because you get a better long-lasting smoke. Now on price the last round of taxes has really jacked up even the best cheap smokes quite a bit. My old 79 to 99 cent everyday premium smokes are now about $1.50 each.

I recommend try samplers or go to your local cigar store tobaccoist ask ask him for ideas to try. Cigars like wine or whiskey tastes can vary with the individual....which is best, the one you like the best.

Whoa there you can really get a whole bunch of different ideas just like in cigars. Also check out my mjp's CIGAR thread for more information and ideas.

Enjoy.

Sorry, I thought you were offering. I like a nice mild cigar with Makers Mark preferably, but I'll take what's available.

You most certainly do not need a single malt scotch to pair with a cigar of any strength.

Johnny Walker Black Scotch Whiskey - $30 is my go to, followed closely by Teachers Highland Cream Scotch Whiskey - $20 and Dewar's White Label Scotch Whisky - $20

As far as bourbon goes, it's hard to beat Makers Mark for a match with any cigar, followed closely by Elijah Craig 12yr - $25 and Buffalo Trace - $25

A good Scotch is Famous Grouse or The Famous Grouse. Not terribly expensive

i'm a highland single malt fan myself glenmorangie or tulloch meen ness ( but thats a order and wait list they make 8000 bottle a year put em down for 10 years then bottle and sell to those on the list the list is currently 6 years , but i'm down for next years 6 bottles only though

Cigars and whiskey are made for one another ! Before the prices soared outa sight I used to drink single malt scotches . Now I don't even consider them ! (FWIW the term "whiskey" in Europe means scotch, in the U.S. it means bourbon.)

I'll also note cigars and brandy are another excellent combination ! And one far more affordable than the single malt scotches ! >MW

I used to have a thing for Canadian Blends...a carryover from my mill rat boilermaker days I guess.

CC, VO, Crown Royal, etc, but also Canadian Mist, cheaper but I liked it.

For a decent, relatively inexpensive scotch, I recommend McClelland's Highland Scotch. It's about $22 a bottle around here. My favorites are The MacCallan and Dalwhinnie both of which are crazy expensive.

Although, i must confess a weakness for Gosling's dark rum....

Oh yeah, I have a small bottle of unopened CR just waiting for the right moment.

Try Canadian Mist...just looked, it's price is up over BV, near CC. Used to be an lessr known great whiskey.

I like The Glenlevit with a Rocky Patel Vintage 1999. Well, any cigar for that matter with the scotch.

used to enjoy both.. health dictated otherwise a couple years ago.

while i liked a dark madura .. i sometimes went for the cheap flavored cherry or vanilla tipped ones at a jiffy store.

for imbibing?

something nice to sip like freezer stored amaretto, or crown, or jim bean/jd7

another nice one is capt morgan spiced rum in a diet coke.
