I felt it! Scared the crap out of me. Wasnt expecting that tonight. We've had them before up here but that was definitely the worst. Still to everyone who gets them regularly it was probably nothing haha.

I went through a 7.9 on Nov 3rd 2002, I mean we were 1/2 mile from the main fault, and the ground opened up; half expected to see the devil himself come crawlin out of the hole. Was like a giant shock the house, everything was turned over, all furniture ect. Wood stoves slid 10 foot across the floor, lucky we were at home. Well head blew off cap and had geyzer inside house in laundry room for an hour, thats how much pressure was in the ground. All our utilities lines were broken, propane, water, electric, oil lines ect.

We had 30 aftershocks of 5's and 6's all day long for a week and still had 4-5 a day for a month. Pretty exciting actually, never see another one that big I don't figure. Really affected the ground elevation levels but you can't see it standing there, until everything freezes.

Just some shakers, no big deal; clean up and get back to enjoying life.

Yes I certainly did. It was centered less than 10 miles from my house. An earthquake really gets your attention. There's no where to run, you can't hide.

Holy smokes! That will scare the living daylights outta' you!

Tonight on Jeopardy (yeah I watch it once in awhile) a 5.0 is 10x a 4.0 quake, when you start talking even near 6.0 it starts getting real serious.

Here in NE Ohio we get a few 4.whatevers once in a while, I've only felt one...most I was in my truck, car or sleeping.

MJP, I ain't kiddin either; When ya hear trains roarin down the mnt valleys and know there ain't any tracks for a 100 miles, when ya see trees bending over almost touching the ground and you can't even stand up, when you see truck size rocks bouncing/rolling down several thousand feet from the mnt across the road from cabin (where you are more accustomed to seeing Dall Sheep). Then they roll another 100 yards once they hit level ground. When ya watch your 500 gal oil tank on a stand rotate upside down so the vent is near the ground. You are quite happy to hear FEMA is showing up with their part trucks with all the copper & fittings & wire, ha ha.

No joke, 4 & 5 jolts, people around here don't even take notice or mention; let along scare the crap outta them. No wonder the Dems own back East. Yukon came up 70 feet a few years back, washed half the town away at ice out. Had sprinklers all around my house when we had a huge burn 30X40 miles across burn through. Guess I'm waitin on the North Koreans sending a nuclear missle to get my attention nx, ha ha.

Hey we got our first snow here today, about a foot; everythings white & spruce green; time to pull the tarps off the snowmachines and go look for some caribou & wolves.

The east coast has many fault lines mostly running down the App. mtns. Many folks don't realize it but the tectonic plates (from the time of Peleg?) are contantly moving and when pressure builds up along the edges they shift and helllo earthquake. The folks in Alaska are on the edge of the pacific ring of fire. The plate south of Alaska is HUGE. The thing rotates counter clockwise 2 inches every year. Thus the Aluetian Is were once part of the US west coast. Not sure about the movement of the several Alantic Plates.

Google earth has that little app that shows earthquakes in dang near real time. It is quite interesting to see just how many of there are that we don't hear about. Alaska has more quakes than CA does.

Talk about movement, check this out.

Felt it pretty good here and I'm about 30 miles from the epicenter, the strange thing was I could hear it. We've had them before but thats a first for me.

The natives LIKE that attitude even most of the US east coast fault lines have been quite for thousand of years - the potential for a bad 6 or greater is there.

Know how many folks live there? less than 750,000 in a state that is two and half times the the size of Texas (which the Texans do not like to hear. About half of them live in Anchorage.

Rattled the house here in VT. Never been through anything higher than a 5.0 and I don't really want to! My wife went through one of the big ones in California and she said the high-rises were swaying back and forth.

Target, that's about right you know.

They need to close the border, too many people here already; even out in the sticks. More than anything, we don't need California or Back East mindsets, worldviews, or attitudes taking hold up here. It's fine just as it is now, shakers, snow, floods, burns, and everything. There's something great about freedom and not having the growth of govt which perpetuates itself through taxes & controls (permits, regulations, excessive laws, and massive local govts that are needed to save us from ourselves) No joke.
