Remember me moaning and wringing my hands about having to send my Colt Anaconda .44 mag to the Colt factory by UPS...because I was afraid of thieft by that outfit.

After talking with UPS and sensing their insincere I don't give a shite attitude, I decided to just let some local gunsmith have at it. The problem was the cylinder wouldn't close up into the frame and became extremely worsen in the course of time to where it wouldn't close at all.

Unknown to me the rear of the cylinder where the ratchet spur wheel is, had some micro burrs that I couldn't even seen with my poor eyeballs. This Anaconda has very tight cylinder tollerances and the micro burrs were just big enough to bind the gun up.

Anyway, the smith took good care of my prize snake and stoned everything down to where it opens and closes by the force of gravity when you press the release knob. Works better than it ever did.

Cost me about $15 which is half of what it would have cost me to ship by UPS.

Oh, and I got the gun back the next day.

I never ship firearms with them anymore, I strictly
use USPS Registered Return Receipt!

Glad you found a good local GS to do the work!

Gpostal, please don't take offense, but Tac...isn't it a bit risky going with the uh US Postal system? Some of the metropliten area post office are staffed with minorities that are most of the time drunk on their ass or out in the parking lot getting bombed on booze and drugs. The local post office mgr. is setting behind a locked door afraid to confront these types who will either kick his ass or kill him.

I would think twice about putting a firearm in their way...zip, gone!

Is my paranoria showing again...sorry.

AGunguy - every firearm I've shipped has been my United States Postal Service.

Every one of those guns/rifles/shotguns arrived right on time.

GG,

When it's shipped the way I mentioned above it is
placed in a locked container and everyone that
handles it must sign off on it from start to it's
destination and the insurance is a definate
pay if lost.

Also, we don't have those types you mention in
my neck of the woods, they wouldn't last 5-minutes
up here, the dump would be full of them besides,
the Postal Inspectors(Police)would have their asses
in jail in a flat second, they take this sort of thing
very seriously.

A private person can only ship long guns and only
to dealers using the USPS unless the handgun is
being shipped to a dealer for repairs.

Thanks, everyone. I'll look into USPS the next time one needs to have warranty repairs.

BTW, how much do the postal chaps charge?

I'd say average cost is between $16.00 & $20.00 w/insurance.
