Paperweight? Nutcracker? It's a little light for a boat anchor,
and a bit heavy for a necklace.

If it's a Lefaucheux, it's French not German, but most that size are neither, so look for the ELG in oval Belgian proofmark.

Thanks for some of the replies(some I did not need and from our sister state OR.) I do not know what or where on this item..posted a few days on this forum and this was my advise..here is the proof mark..

That is most certainly a German proofmark, not Belgian, and some refer to all pinfires as Lefaucheuxs, because he invented the system.

Thanks hrf.. I am just having fun..have more of this type around here and at 85... time to start unloading..fellow I know want's to help me sell my stuff, but alas out of loop for some time just trying to find some decent numbers..thanks again. Roy

Guns of that type and in that general condition usually are in the asking range of $200 or so at gun shows, about half that in shops. Getting value is closer to the latter figure.

Genuine ivory grips will add $50 or more.

Thanks Jim...knew it would not be of much value, but sure perked up my intrest..will clean it up and oil..really dry and all parts work after all these years..checked ***** and think I can get some pin fire blanks for it..IF I can figure out what cal. it is????. only number I can find is 25..not sure if serial number or what..thanks again..Roy..(I paid $25.00 back in 96 and been is a drawer ever since..)

THe number 25 is an assembly or batch number. The makers of those guns turned them out in batches of around 100 guns or so. The parts were turned over to a fitter/assembler who used files and skill to put the guns together. Then he put a number on them before they were taken apart again for final finishing (bluing, plating, engraving). That number ensured that the parts that had been fitted to one another got back together again. So the number would be repeated over and over with each batch; it is not a serial number and after the gun was finished had no meaning.
