Out for another couple of days and still nothing except a couple ticks. Saw a couple of big gobblers this morning and wanted to fire so badly because I never saw them when it was actually season but they know how to work it. We sat on a nice area where there were buck and doe tracks, some nice piles of droppings and some scrapes but they never made it back up our way. On the other hand, my lady is quite angry she had to work today and her cousin shot a nice buck up north where we go when she isnt working. Hopefully I can get her something too so she doesnt have to listen to him all year.

First two of muzzle loader. A spike on the one and the other was a 8 pointer but had 2 broken off. At least it's meat for the freezer.

Well, after hunting nearly everyday in Nov, i finally got a chance. I watched two doe sneak behind me and I knew a buck was near. Sure enough, 5 minutes later he showed himself walking the same trail as the doe. He would have walked by out of range, but I grunt and he stopped...100 yards away. After a few minutes he turned and headed my way. I made a great 32 yd shot with my bow....during Gun season!! He's only a small 8 but He'll make some tasty jerky!

The best part was, when I got back to my truck I had a MSG from the my taxidermist. Took 12 long months but my 2011 mount was done (9 point, double patch). What a great day!

wish we could keep road kill here in WA, it's not legal; they feed them to the wolves at the wolf sanctuary.

This is the deer that ran out in front of my buddy. He placed a shot right between the ear and antler. I was more excited than he was. Although I didnt get anything my first year out there, it was nice to go with someone who got something. I credit myself with an assist on it too. haha.

I would say the netting and duct tape is to keep flys and gnats out of the deer so they don't lay eggs and later have maggots. probably warmer in calli than midwest in november.

Yep. You can put them in the bags and leave them hanging for several days if it is cool enough. Kinda like the butcher would do, but since it is outside, you want to have it covered so bugs, leaves and such dont get on the meat. Weather is too warm around here to ever hang meat outside.

I use game bags, it's usually too warm to hang here in WA also. Keeps the flys and dirt off of the meat. Back home in PA, it was always freezing, would let them hang in the barn skinned and halved for about two weeks before butchering.

Little late, here's the one I got with my M91/30. I was tickled with it, it's my first buck and I love non typical racks. I did the mount myself, also very happy with it.

I got two this season. The first one was on Dec. 10 and weighed 165 pounds. I got the second one on Jan. 21. He weighed 162 pounds. I let many does and small bucks walk.

That is one beautiful deer! I waited untill the latter part of the season, trying to get a buck at the feeder, but no luck. Took a nice doe, so I did get some meat in the freezer.

Son shot a nice doe. We have Italian sausage, breakfast sausage, loins, steaks, pepper stick and steaks. We cook something up about once a week.

Got behind the roadkill truck the other day. He had about 12 deer in the back. What a waste.

First season in 8 years skunked.

And my first new this year $65 "Deer Bundle" (one buck, two doe tags) down the toilet.

Hunted more days this season(s) than ever since I moved to Indiana in '89. 13 of 16 days of gun, 8 of 16 days of Muzzleloading, 3 of the 6 "extra" doe season after Christmas (not counting the day I got "blizzarded out" and the next when I had to spend a couple of hours and almost another heart attack digging out the Toyota 4x4 when I buried it in a 4 foot snow drift)

Only got one shot at a buck on opening day at about 120 and missed, all 50 or so deer I saw after that were 250-300yds away or more...

Oh well, this makes up for the several opening days over the years where I filled all my tags and told my wife "This was almost too easy, and now I'm done hunting after one day...."

Shoulda kept my $%^&*!! mouth shut!

You should move to Alabama. $65 for deer tags? Here we don't have to fool with tags. All we have to do is add big game to our hunting license. That does kick the price up to $24.

Our bow season opens mid October and runs through January. Our gun season opens mid November and runs through January. The limit is two a day, one of which can be a buck. There is a three buck season limit. So if you killed your limit every day of the season, you could legally kill about 210 deer a season. Of course 207 would have to be does.

When we kill a deer we don't have to check it in anywhere. The only thing we are required to do is fill out a harvest record if we kill a buck. However I just finished my seventh deer season here in which I have killed 15 deer and no one has ever checked my harvest record.

Our archery starts October 1, and an Archery tag costs $24. Gun Season starts the second weekend in November and goes for 16 days, $24 for a Buck gun tag. Muzzleloading starts the weekend after gun ends and goes for 16 days, $24 for an ML tag for a buck.

Doe tags (Bonus Antlerless" are good in any season and are (were) $24 for the first tag, $15 for any more, no limit on does EXCEPT no more than allowed by county, which range from none to 8.

We are allowed only one buck, any method, per year, but as many doe as we want as long as no more per allowed in each county.

It used to get pricey to hunt archery and not get your buck, then buy the gun tag and not get your buck, and have to buy the ML tag to try for a buck with the muzzlestuffer.

I used to try like heck to get a buck during gun with my shotgun, then my doe tag would get me through ML if I didn't get one in gun.

But this year they changed it, a lot!

If you bought the "Bundle" for $65, you could hunt any season for your buck, and kill two doe (any season.) Extra doe tags are $15.

Plus they added 5 days starting Dec 26th for antlerless gun to fill any remaining doe tags, in any county that allowed 4 or more doe, which mine did.

Indiana has GREAT hunting and BIG bucks, and LOTS of fat grain fed deer, but this year for some reason not near enough to my "Guaranteed" stand where I ALWAYS score...
