Whew that's a lot of powders.......

Long ago I downsized my powder usage. Since I reload on a progressive press spherical powders are metered better and I try to use only them. But here are my powders:

H335, H380, H414, H4831SC most rifles will shoot well with one of them

HP38 (same as W231), IMR4227, AA#7 & 9 most handguns get the HP38 (W231)

I use a couple of other powders for specialty cartridges. But I have found it better to minimize my selection for storage and logistics reasons.

Like you I also try to buy powder that can be used for more than just one application. And I do it for the same reasons you listed. AA#9 can also be used in rifle calibers like the 500 Linebaugh, or 30 M1 Carbine.

i do like sperical powders due to less cutting and better dropping.. but I'm hard pressed to find some i like better than 4064 in my 30-06.. etc. a couple of those I bought to try out to check improvement on some cartrifges.. so some of those powders may be 'dead' IE.. i found i didn't like them as much as soemthing else.. etc. so not all those are active powders mind you... 4064 sure is though.. still have? 2.25# of it left . based upon a calibrated 'shake' of the jug..

thanks for looking
H4831SC = .375 HH mag, .300 wby mag, & 7 mag
IMR or H4350 = .243, .25-06, .270, .30-06
CFE223 = .218 bee, .222 rem, .223, .308, .35 rem and .303 brit
IMR3031 = .30-30 and 7.62X39
Titegroup = .32ACP, .38/.357, 9mm
2400 = .357 mags, .30 carb

These would be my choices for your listed cartridges.. And I particularly like the CFE223, it will also cover light bullet .243 loads, .30-30 loads and gas system safe Garand loads in .30-06.. oh yeah.. and it prevents copper fouling. And the .25-06 and .270 would also have data for heavy bullet loads using thje 4831SC.

the 7.62X39 is really the only PITA round you load for.. It really shines with fast rifle powders youd normally load in a .22 hornet or something. AA1680 is superb for the X39 but it really doesnt bear good results in anything else you load.

Oh yeah.. And you can also use the 2400 for cast bullet loads in just about all of the rifle cartridges including the 7.62X39, and the Titegroup can also be loaded in the .308 for subsonic loads for use in a supressor. 8 gr under a 168 gr bullet makes 1050 fps and actually shoots pretty good in a 10 twist.. I call it a snail fart load cuz its not even loud without a can.

sounds like I need to ask for some pointers if you think it's a PITA round.

fill me in.

thanks

Just that it uses such fast powders. Its a very strightforward round to load for. I was referring to it as a PITA because its really the only round you load for that cant be blanketed by other powders suitable to the other rounds you load. It is the one youd need the H4198 and the IMR4198 for. the rest will be better served by the others i mentioned.

That the only reason i refer to it as a PITA round. Its just powder picky.

i had picked up a few powders specifially for some loads. that imr 4198 *may* have been for the 762x39. ( don't remember )

I usually try to read the relaod data and grab power and projs at the same time if it's not covered by something else I have.

thanks for the info.

I learn something every day!
