Red face The Small-Town Monitor of Morals

Mildred, the local, small-town church gossip and self-appointed monitor of morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several members did not approve of her spying and gossip, but they feared her enough to maintain their silence.
She made a mistake however, when she accused George, a new member of the church, of being an alcoholic after she saw his pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon. She emphatically told George and several others that everyone seeing it there would know exactly what he was doing and made it very clear that she did not approve.
George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away. He did not explain, defend or deny. Later that evening, George quietly parked his old pickup right in front of Mildred's house and walked home. He left it there overnight for all to see.

Lamentations Chapter 5:
1. Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.
2. Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.
3. We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers [are] as widows.
5. Our necks [are] under persecution: we labour, [and] have no rest.
16. The crown is fallen [from] our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!
21. Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.

Bravo. Mess with a crafty old fart who's been around the block a time or two and you'll likely regret it.

Mack: Shame what this town's come to.
Charley Waite: You could do something about it.
Mack: What? We're freighters. Ralph here's a shopkeeper.
Charley Waite: You're men, ain't you?
Mack: I didn't raise my boys just to see 'em killed.
Charley Waite: Well you may not know this, but there's things that gnaw at a man worse than dying.

That joke is so old that it started out with a railroad worker and his lamp. That's why a house of ill repute is called a red light district.
