WHITE CHRISTMAS?
are you in an area that will be lucky enough to have a white christmas?
as a kid i can remember many a white christmas. as i have aged the white christmas's seem to less and less. i dont know why, but to me it really dont seem like christmas without a little snow. it dont look like we are getting any snow. i am between martinsburg and morgantown City Snow depth in inches = 1 5 10+ Beckley 36% 7% 4% Bluefield 24% 10% 0% Charleston 30% 3% 0% Elkins 35% 10% 0% Huntington 23% 0% 0% Martinsburg 24% 3% 3% Morgantown 31% 0% 0% Parkersburg 24% 3% 0% yep i understand there are a few of you who have probably never seen snow and i feel sorry for you  Last edited by wv hillbilly; 12-10-2012 at 12:09 PM.. |

We got snow here yesterday. Not sure how much. We were supposed to get 1-3 inches.

t2s and I got about 3" over the weekend. just enough to make travel miserable. up north of town they closed the interstate all the way to watertown. they got it worse up there.
I am hoping for a winter full of snow and a spring full of rain. too many ponds and such dried up (ducks) you're right, it just don't seem right without some snow on the ground. but I hope it isn't like 3 years ago. we got 14" Christmas eve. driving to get in-laws to my house was a b****

Snow, we don' need no steekin' snow. My front porch this morning with the bird feeder in peril. Snow from my new steel roof hanging over the feeder, it fell right after I snapped the picture, pretty good timing.

No need to say it, but we don't get the white Christmas thing down here. It snows, once in about 10 years, heavy enough to stay one the ground for a few days. If you think getting around in the snow is ruff on you Yankee's, then you should come down here and watch a bunch of souther rednecks try getting around in it!!

we normally don't get snow around here on the Virginia peninsula during Christmas time. we usually see summer weather through a good part of fall, then fall type weather through to january, then some limited winter weather until february when spring kicks in again.
this year, though, promises to be different, as we saw cold weather in September! at this rate we might just get a white Christmas.

Almost always have snow by christmas here. 3 or 4 inches hardly slows things down up here. I just hate the cold. It's nothing to get 30+ days in a row under freezing temps. I work outdoors some times. Getting kind of old for this. May think of retiring in the next 10 or 12 years.

I recollect a White Christmas in NYC about 25 years ago that turned downright glacial. We'd received about a foot of snow on Christmas Eve. A local guy, newly arrived from a country which hadn't seen snow since the last Ice Age, awoke to this scene on Christmas morning and decided he wanted to clear the street. He tried to accomplish this by turning on a fire hydrant. Thus was created Manhattan Island's Great Upper West Side Glacier. The local kids loved it.

I grew up in NJ, I remember white Thanksgivings. Winter seems to come later here in Missouri every year. We're more likely to get snow in Jan. or Feb. then Dec. anymore.

Snow? You mean that white fluffy stuff that buried us her in SEK about 6 yrs ago(8 in in 2 hrs) and again 2 yrs ago(12 in then exactly 1 wk later another 12 in)? Nope haven't seen that fer two years now and looks like we are gonna make it number three this year.

Thank god I lived in an area that gets snow once every 25 or so years that was growning up. I had it snow once where I grew up.
I hate snow, I hate virginia drivers in snow, I hate the state of virginia when it snows. I hate everything about snow to be honst that is why I don't know how to snow ski. Every time it snows here everyone panics and runs to the store to buy the following. 1. Water 2. Milk 3. Bread 4. Batteries 5. snow shovels 6. Ice melt Then the state waits untill there is at least 4" of snow on the road way before starting to plow then they don't salt or spray beat juice on the roads till after they start plowing. On and the state keeps 1/2 to 1.5" between the blades and the ground when plowing. Then when they do plow they never take time time to clean out the 4' tall berm of hard packed snow/ ice they windrow into the entrance of my coimmunity and I have to go out by my self or with my kids and shovel it all off the street so my plow guy can get into the street. |

We get one about every 15 years or so. Our snow actually comes in the end of January, first of February. Remember the Super Bowl from a couple of years ago? But it only lasts a few days.
