Default Might go to DC, got a gun question

Can you fly into DC with a declared firearm. Better yet, can you get out with it??

I hate to go unarmed into the murder capital of the US, but my Sister-in-Law wants to take us to the Smithsonian, National Archives and I don't know what else we can squeeze in. MUST see the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution before Obozo really wipes his arse with them.

I know if I drove I would be good to go, but the flying thing is messing up my protection. I may have to rely on Divine Providence totally , nothing against that, I just like having my own means of protection.

Like when Jesus sent out the 70 and asked them if they had any swords and they said yeah, we got a couple.

We recall the case of the Shoshone war band which showed up complete with one 30-30 rifle per man the week after Pearl Harbor, and simply wanted to have the enemy pointed out to them. "We hear there's a war going on and we want to go fight it." Jeff Cooper

I'd leave it home if I were you. Here's the law: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/dc.pdf

PS: You can't fly into DC anyway - No airport. The closest is Reagan Natl in Arlington, VA.

Reagan National and Washington National are the same airport. When I was stationed in Quantico in the mid 70's, I'd drive up to DC every chance I got to visit the Smithsonian usually.

PS: A piece of advice: Don't rent a car. Take a cab or public transportation to get around. Might cost you a bit more, but it's worth it.

And while there find time to make it out to the National Fire Arms Museum in Fairfax. It's well worth the trip.
I understand you can take public transportation to get there but I found a cab worked well.

Order of importance:
National Archives - Declaration & Constitution
Smithsonian - Natural History I think. I want to see Lewis & Clark's artifacts & the taxidermy samples they sent back to Jefferson, Revolutionary & Civil War & George Washington's personal effects.

I realize that's more than I can get done in 3 days but I'm going to give it a shot.....oops, er a try.

Gotta plug the Marine Corps Museum. About 40 miles south of DC just outside the base. They have a great exhibit and a replica of Tun Tavern.

Got to go see the Korean War Memorial too since my Dad made the Inchon & Wonson landings at the request of USMC 1rst Marine Division shooting a Browning Light .30.

I am with gunny. If you tried to bring a weapon into the DC area, especially after this election and if you are from a red state. I will lay odds the Secrect Service will have a nice "chat" with you, take your weapon and, and escort you to the DC, Va border. With a hint to not come back.
Have no doubt that TSA will notify Secret Service.

Regan National, Dullas and Baltimore Washington International are your airports of choice.

I would fly to Dullas as the best Air and Space museum is right there.

But, you can't have a handgun in DC unless you are A. One of the 50 different LEOA in that city. B. A thug gansta or C. An evil Right wing home grown terrorist.

I don't think you are an LEO and I don't take you as being a side ways holding bullet throwing gangsta.

If you stay in the proper areas of DC you should be fine as along the mall there are more cops than any other place in the city.

Things to see are

The newseum. http://www.newseum.org/

The International Spy museum. http://www.spymuseum.org/

If you want a very humbling put your life in perspective go to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. http://www.ushmm.org/

I live in Northern VA, not far from DC. Don't even THINK about taking a gun into the city!
