Default Ceasefire or timeout?

Apparently Israel and Hamas have reached a verbal agreement to stop shooting at each other for awhile. Supposed to take effect in a couple hours, in the meantime they are getting their licks in. No papers signed, no details. Nobody is putting much faith in this doing much of anything, except providing a possible chance of rearming without getting shot at.

"except providing a possible chance of rearming without getting shot at."

No doubt about it, Not a ceasefire a pause to rearm for sure.

Those tunnels under the border arent big enough to pass more than one missle at a time. Hamas needs to re-supply and my bet is that this is that sort of stall tactic..

From what I've read the big ones (Fajr-5) are brought in in pieces and assembled in Gaza. Makes sense.

The cease fire that went into effect today could have went into effect 24 hours ago, and untold number of deaths, except they waited for Hillary to show up for some unknown reason.

Is this thread about predicting how long it will be before rockets are fired out of gaza or egypt?

Hasn't there already been one fired?

Text of agreement:
Quote:
http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=292952

1: (no title given for this section)

A. Israel should stop all hostilities in the Gaza Strip land, sea and air including incursions and targeting of individuals.

B. All Palestinian factions shall stop all hostilities from the Gaza Strip against Israel including rocket attacks and all attacks along the border.

C. Opening the crossings and facilitating the movements of people and transfer of goods and refraining from restricting residents' free movements and targeting residents in border areas and procedures of implementation shall be dealt with after 24 hours from the start of the ceasefire.

D. Other matters as may be requested shall be addressed.

2: Implementation mechanisms:

A. Setting up the zero hour for the ceasefire understanding to enter into effect.

B. Egypt shall receive assurances from each party that the party commits to what was agreed upon.

C. Each party shall commit itself not to perform any acts that would breach this understanding. In case of any observations Egypt as the sponsor of this understanding shall be informed to follow up.
Note that it does not restrict re-arming or suicide bombers coming from Gaza. In fact it explicitly opens up the border crossings with Egypt for arms resupply. Been there, done that. This won't last anytime.

Thumbs up Re: Ceasefire or timeout?

Israel Should "Clean Out the Viper's Nest"
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/ham...o_code=10DA8-1

Republicans Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani say they're hoping for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, but offered little encouragement that anything could be achieved to bring a lasting end to the violence without more pressure on Iran.
In interviews with Fox News's Greta Van Susteren both called on the Obama administration to focus on the broader issue of Iran's support for Hamas and Islamic extremists in the region, and suggested it might be in Israel's long term interest to invade Gaza in an attempt to wipe out what Thompson called Hamas "viper's nest."
"It very well may be that it would be best for them not to reach a cease-fire," said Thompson, the former senator from Tennessee. "I hope we don't feel like that we should go in there and manufacture some kind of a cease-fire because none of the underlying problems are going to change."
Thompson said a cease-fire won't change Hamas's view of Gaza as "an occupied territory by the Israelis" or prevent the Palestinian militant group from continuing to hide rockets underground or build tunnels into Israel from which to strike in the future.
"I'm afraid the Israelis are going to have to go in there with ground forces, that they're loathe to reach some kind of a temporary cease-fire knowing all of that framework is still there," he said. "They're going to have to go in there and clean out that viper's nest."

Jpost reports that at least 20 rockets have been fired into Israel since the "cease fire". I guess some of the Hamas people haven't gotten the word yet. Or they don't give rat's patoot.

I vote for time out. This thing isn't over by a long shot, even if it should appear to over! Muslims all believe that the Jews have all got to die, and they won't quite trying to kill them all, unless it's for a short timeout.
