Default Wounded Warrior Project doesn't want gun money

Regardless of what you think of James Yeager, I wanted to pass this along.

I think Yeager is an idiot, but I am glad you posted this. This is the third time someone has said this about WW. I am calling them today to withdraw my monthly support.

I just got off the phone with the Jacksonville office and the lady said that this is all a mistake and that their CEO went on a national gun talk show yesterday to clear it up. She claims that they fully support the 2nd amendment and they take their WWs on hunts and that this all started when they declined an invite to a gun talk show. So, now, who do we believe?

I will still support them and help out with the local WW projects. I have donated two 22 rifles to the local WW project and help out with shooting and hunting with those in my area.

A guy that I know and used to work with is a Wounded Warrior that was blinded from a near mortar hit. These guys earned our help and respect regardless of what the big shots in the WW may or may not have said about guns.

Personally I don't believe any of that BS and suspect it to be just a blown out of control rumor from those that hate our military and all that it does.

I verified that the WWP head honcho does knock down nearly 1/3 million dollars a year.
And they rank poorly financially, with only about half of donations actually reaching the guys they are supposedly formed to help.
Even the Red Cross, as much as I hate them, does a lot better than this -

I am continuing to research them before I completely pull the plug, but I am close. Here is the problem. Like EVERY SINGLE organization out there, they too have their problems, they are no different than the rest.

I just finished reading this same thing on The Truth About Guns. He sure makes alot of money helping vets. There were also other CEOs that run non profit orig. making boatloads of cash off the contributions. The CEO of the Am. Red Cross makes around $600,000 plus expen. You should check this out, its an eye opener.

It is happening in most large organizations out there. Problem is, do we shut off our support completely even when they are still doing some good? I want to support the WWs somehow and they are doing some good....

easy on the class warfare bro...you sound like Obama.

Wounded Warrior Foundation is separate from politics. If you only support a foundation that supports your vets when it's convenient for you, then those vets should only fight for you when it's convenient for them.

If that were the case I'd leave every last one of your asses on the field because you aren't worth my ass taking a round.

I've got over 6 years before I can retire so will likely be in OEF again at least a couple more times. While not all of your dollar reaches the vets, it's still a benificial organization that does a lot of good.

Being that I may be in need of programs like this yet, I will continue to support them although making our opinions heard to the WWF is necessary to help steer them on the right path if at all possible.

Will have to keep up on this subject, it's a tough nut to crack I think.

Wait a minute here. These CEOs of these large foundations are taking way too much off the top. This is not a corporation where they are in business to make money. That would be a whole different story. I am a huge supporter of the NRA and yet one of my biggest gripes is the salaries the top folks are being paid. Like I said, these are not corporations that are producing a product for sale. They are dependent upon donations. The majority of the money collected needs to go to the wounded warriors, not the fat cats. Same with the red cross. And then they are going to start spouting anti gun crap too? That wont work.

I am watching this discussion closely, and still need to do more research before deciding to continue or withdraw my support for WW. That salary is absurd without a doubt and I hate to think the lions share of my meager donation goes to line someones pockets.

The salaries , fundraising, and operating costs of most charities is troubling to me, and that is the main reason I will not respond to telephone solicitations. I learned through experience with a Vietnam vets group that utilized a fundraiser, that about 85% of the donation made went to the fundraising corporation.

On the other hand what's the alternative? If only a nickel of every dollar contributed gets to these vets, withdrawing support means that they get nothing. Should we make them suffer over a question of logistics or someones misguided mission statement? Seems to me they have suffered enough. Give me a good alternative to WW and I will support it.

Well--if it's all just a big mis-understanding, maybe they might think
about editing their website.

Copy and paste directly from the WW website:

"WWP does not co-brand, create cause marketing campaigns or receive a percentage or a portion of proceeds from companies in which the product or message is sexual, political or religious in nature, or from alcohol or weapon companies"

The Red Cross has been on my "do not contribute list" for some time. The stories about their unwillingness to help worthy individuals are too numerous to relate here. The Salvation Army is a better choice, in my opinion.

I dont think its a misunderstanding. But now, like ROMT has just said, what do we do? The wounded warriors have suffered enough and they need us. Do we give up on them because of the stupidity of the CEO of this organization? Is this org. bad enough to pull the plug on? I am sure they are seeing a huge drop in their donations today because of this.

The guy is succesfully runing a $ 71 Million Dollar Business. I don't think that $300 K is out of line. Sure, they spend a lot on fundraising but they seem to be getting a return. Spend Money to Make Money.

Call it what you want DD, but most charities that are of any size are a business and must necessarily be run as such.

If you want a truly altruistic Charity, do what I do and support the Hell out of "The Salvation Army". They are huge, yet their leader makes a pittance.
