Set a bowl of Vinegar in the bottom of your safe for a couple of days to get rid of the smell. Then give it a good cleaning to get rid of the bacteria.

also.. lysol has a mildew killer and inhibiter.. you can take the guns out.. hose it down and shut the door for a day.. should *kill* the microbes. then, you can treat any leftover underlying smell with something like febreze..

I've done this with musty wood ammo storage boxes i've found at flea markets.

works great.

best of luck

ps.. a dryer sheet layed out flat, with some kitty litter poured in it, then fold the corners up and tie with some fishing line.. makes a great water absorbant 'sachet' ( i can't believe I actually used that word ).. and it smells good too.

will deoderize a small compartment, and absorb water.

the kaolyn clay can be cooked int he oven to dry out monthly.. or toss and get another scoop out of the 5# 25# bag..e tc.

Yes, I found out the hard way on that in a safe in the basement, not opened often it got musty, paper clips started rusting.

I had dessecant but it didn't totally do the job.

OPEN, CLEAN, DRY, use a dryer of some sort and check it often. Good luck.
