Default scope mount

Hi I'm new to the forum and would like to know if anyone has tried to put a scope on an 1858 remington cap and ball pistol. I've seen it done on you tube but not sure what they did. Any suggestion welcome. Thanks Dit

Default Re: scope mount

A consideration for putting a scope on any percussion muzzle loader is fouling the lenses of the scope. The obejective lens is subject to considerable fouling from the black powder smoke, and the ocular lens will very likely get coated with residue from the percussion caps, and eventually pit from this. The constant cleaning will reduce or remove the coatings on both of these lenses. In my opinion, I wouldn't bother with it, and yes I know what they say about opinions. Just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean you should.
